Hi all!

My cat Ghibli has been a pig these past few months because he has been growing-- he would always finish everything on his plate and wasn't too picky. I feed him both raw and canned. Lately (probably the past 3 days), he has started to become REAL picky and isn't really fully finishing his food. He is still super playful and acting totally normal besides that....

For instance, we for sure would go through a 3.3oz can by noon (one when I get up, and then around lunch time).... however that hasn't happened. I even put one of his favorite Nutro Natural sliced turkey out and he ate probably 4-5 bites then left the rest. Could his growing just be slowing down? I used to go through a lot more food than this. He acts hungry still---but I feel like it just may be from the excitement of seeing me carry a plate. Once I put the plate down, he sniffs it and looks at me as though  he is slightly disappointed and then proceeds to eat about half of it or less. The only thing he continues to eat like a pig is Sheba (chicken and tuna) pates... Ideally I don't really want to give him a lot of fish, so this is not something I want to feed him often.

Could it be that I let him have a taste of my Rotisserie chicken a few nights ago and he doesn't want to go back to normal cat food? Ugh.... he used to be SO thankful!

Do you think this is something I should worry about?

I had never thought about it before someone commented on it here but could it be that giving a cat a lot of different options to eat creates a picky cat.

You say he's acting normal and playful so doesn't sound like you have to worry.    My Lokhi who is a little over 1 yrs old sometimes will eat a lot one day then the next couple of days he tends to eat less.  Then he'll be back to being a pig again.

I think he probably just needs less food. I have several kittens ranging in age from 6 months to 9 months and the 9 month old kittens started eating a lot less more recently.

Hmm I too have a cat that is eating less than she used to and she's about 9 months old as well...her brother and sister still have the same appetite as before and are quite a bit more hefty than her. I worry about her all the time but she's perfectly healthy according to the vet so... I'd tell you the same thing my vet told me and that is if you notice any changes in behavior like him being less active, not interested in playing etc then that's usually telling you something isn't right. Sorry I'm not much help but I know how you feel.

Thanks guys, that was really reassuring :) So... how much should I feed him? I'd say he weighs about 7.5 pounds.
