Hi, I just got the most amazing siamese kitten and would like to breed him so I am trying to find him a girlfriend. He is so handsome and great, it would be a waste of great genetics if he didn't reproduce. I do not have his papers, will this cause a problem and is there anything else I should be concerned about during this process? I am totally new to breeding so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would advise you to find a mentor and think through the logistics of breeding before you get any further with this. Breeding is a huge undertaking and commitment, including financially. It is also incredibly difficult to live with intact males and females, especially together.

Not having papers means that you don't actually know anything about his genetics, just his looks. Don't take this lightly, enjoy your cat, and do your research.

You might want to check out the breeder's forum.

I have some questions.

Why do you not have his papers? Is it because the breeder didn't register him, because the breeder hasn't gotten the papers to you yet, or some other reason?

Did you buy him with breeding rights?

Not having both registration papers and breeding rights is going to be a deal breaker. If you don't have both of those it's very unlikely that you can find a reputable breeder who will either sell you a female with breeding rights or allow your boy to mate with one of their breeding queens. Of course there are plenty of backyard breeders out there who would accommodate you, but you wouldn't have any idea what the true background of the female is.

I recommend that you check out the requirements for starting a breeding program/cattery in either CFA or TICA. I'm afraid you're going to find that it's a much more complicated process than simply finding a girlfriend for your boy.

I agree with you, he seems to have great looks, a modern type siamese, seems to be of show quality.     But breeding without papers or at very least, a wellknown background including knowing the ancestors, is practically pointless.

IF you had papers, you could almost surely cooperate with breeders.  In Sweden for example, that is the rule, owner of females - breeder, is oftne not the owner of the stud.  I for example, was owner of two Russian blue studs a ten years ago and we did the service to the Swedish and Norwegian RB owners. Got visits of them ladies.   :)

You  can hardly cooperate with reputable breeders.  Practically the only disponible is a Byb breeder.  Question is if you really want this?  I wouldnt.

You can also hope for private persons having females - siamese, but this too will be a production of moggies, look alikes of siameses....

Observe also, most of cats with papers, pedigrees, and even looks with OK background, ARE neutered.  Its not all acceptable whom are used in breeding.
