Hello all! this is my second post about the same situation. things have changed, for the better, but my baby is still not 100%.

To catch you up, my cat had signs of asthma. multiple times a week we would hear the sad sad sound of not a hairball, but asthma. She is 10 years old, 17.5 lbs, and healthy. I went to the vet after the asthma didnt get better (4 months of attacks on a weekly basis that seemed to be increasing). all her vitals came back flawless. some early signs of kidney failure but she is concentrating her urine fine and it is probably due to being overweight.

I have always been a naturalist and avoid chemicals and toxins. Since we went to the vet I have switched to a clay litter, started a 20% wet food diet and have started to play with her more. To sum up the vet, who is very honest and knows what she is talking about, is baffled. the ONLY thing that could be causing her asthma is that she is over weight and has trouble keeping her head up, HAH!? poor fat kitty. got her 2 xrays and there are NO signs of asthma.

the vet noticed that she had fleas. so naturally both kitties got a dose of revolution the same day at home. so we cleaned the house intensely. diatomaceous earth in the carpet and in the kitties food (small amounts in food but we covered the carpet). ironically I have asthma myself and the diatomaceous earth gave me multiple asthma attacks due to the dust that was in the air. talk about annoying but I know this stuff kills insects and is healthy to ingest in nominal amounts. so  we stopped using the diatomaceous earth for my sake.

after seeing the vet Ricecake went from 7ish asthma attacks a week to about none, MAYBE 1 a week. So after the vet, she got Flea medicine (revolution) as I said before. we cleaned the house, got new litter, started a better diet, and more play time and wa-la the asthma attacks stopped for 5 weeks. so IMO the only thing that changed was her flea medicine and the cat litter.

So my question is can flea bites cause a cat to have an allergic reason to the saliva they leave behind; leading to an asthma attack such as in a human who comes into contact with an allergen? its weird because my cat is very healthy other than a few pounds of lazyness. she is well groomed, and happy.

early this morning I woke up to ricecake having an attack. it was early in the morning. this was the first attack in 5 weeks (first time since the vet).

Did a stray flea bite ricecake and cause another attack? fleas are nasty and annoying as we all know... does anyone have any experience in this? can someone confirm that flea bites CAN cause asthma attacks IN FELINES? sorry for my lack of detail and concise wording. I just got home from work and needed to get this forum started. Please help!

to all that give me feedback just please remember; we already went to the vet when this issue did not get better. the vet said that she is healthy other than needing a small diet. blood work was good. her ears actually had a LESS THAN normal amount of bacteria, so no mites... she had/has fleas and got flea medicine. then asthma attacks went away for 5 weeks. last night she had her first attack since the vet. the vet has no idea what is causing her asthma, she had an x-ray and shows NO signs of asthma... sorry for being annoying but my Ricecake means more to me than anything.
