Someone brought me a sick kitten about 10 days ago. The vet gave me some antibiotics for her, but at the time her eyes were all crusted over so nobody could tell that she's missing an eye! Now that she's recovering and the crust is off her eyes, I found out that she lost an eye from the infection :(. I'm sure she'll do fine with one eye, and her other eye looks good now, my question is what's usually done about a missing eye? Does the vet stitch it shut or is it OK to leave it open? I guess I don't mind the empty eye socket but some people might get creeped out. I plan to ask the vet about it at her next visit---I was just wondering what other vets/owners usually do!

We had a one-eyed cat at the shelter who lost it as a kitten. The vet removed his eye, though, and stitched it shut. I don't know whether that's done after the fact. You can't tell from this photo because he has his other eye closed, but it was his right eye.

Haha, that's exactly what she looks like! She's black, and is missing her right eye. . .

Yeah, I know that if the vet removes it they stitch it closed but I don't know what happens with an eye that's already gone. Huh, guess we'll see what Doc recommends.
