Hey everyone! I am new to these forums and just got my first kitten on Sunday! I have had cats (and a kitten) before but they were always family pets. Now I am living in an apartment with my fiance and we have our first kitten! The kitten came from my partner's friend, who's cat has a litter. As far as I know, it was a planned litter, but they are not breeders. We fell in love with her when we saw the first photos, and basically reserved her then and there. We visited a few times and now as of Sunday, she lives with us!
Her name is Tama (たま). It's a Japanese word meaning 'life, soul, energy, jewel'. It is also the name of a cat whom she is named after: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tama_(cat) Why a Japanese name? I am a follower of the Shinto faith, which is an indigenous faith of Japan. The kami (deity) I enshrine is Inari-Okami, and one of her most prevalent symbols is the jewel (tama). So yes, she has a lot of thought into her name! I know it's not that important but I thought it might be nice to explain why we named her that!
She is currently about 11 weeks old, litter trained and very confident. She's extremely playful and a sweet little girl. I'm so excited for our life today!
She is on what her previous owners gave her right now: whiskas kitten food and dry food. I really want to wean her off the dry food and feed her just wet. I would like to move her onto a premium cat food in the future, though I have not decided on a brand just yet.
As for colour, I THINK she is a tortoiseshell and white, but others are saying calico? Is there much difference?
Here are some photos of her!:
Thanks for looking and I hope everyone is having a great day!
