She is doing everything great. I had to help her cut 2 of the placentas... she was overwhelmed and the kittens were dragging them around. I think another is coming now
so seeing as this is a forum I want to use it to share my experience and what I've learnt about the whole pregnancy and labor from my cat.
First thing first.
Every cat is different. Some have their kittens quick and some take some time. Don't rush them and trust your instinct and especially your cat as to whether or not something is wrong even if you have the vet freaking on the phone and your friend is saying the kittens should have been born (shes not an expert and no one knows your cat better than you.... if something is wrong shes not going to be all lovey and purring and napping.
so, for Nala:
3:00pm - water broke
5:30pm - with no signs of pushing or contractions or labor, I could see the amniotic sac coming out.
8:45-9 pm- she had visible contractions and was pushing
9:45pm- is when she had her first kitten they came one after the other pretty quickly after that.
11:00pm- all babies were cleaned up and momma was curled around them keeping them warm.
Day Before The Babies:
So what I did notice yesterday was that she was acting different. She followed me everywhere especially to the kitchen. When I offered her food she took a bit and then left it. She was distant yet stayed close by enough to see me. Last night instead of sleeping with me like she usually does she slept I'm assuming under my bed then hopped up in the morning. So really there wasn't really a tell tale sign she was going into labor the next day.
Today before her water broke:
She was quiet. Usually always around but today I didn't really notice her act any different from the night before. I went out to have a coffee at my neighbors house and when I came back is when I noticed a wet spot on my bed and floor and Nala for the first time was sitting in the spot I made for her in my closet.
From 2pm up until now. she was calm. purring. I did notice her purring was deeper when she started having contractions but that was about it..
From the time I saw the sac to the time she gave birth I was freaking out. People told me to bring her to the vet ( not people from here... more friends and the vet themselves) and that the baby is probably dead and shes going to need a c section because it was taking so long blah blah. Even the vet told me to bring her in. I had a gut feeling from seeing my cat that everything was going to be okay. she was calm and purring and resting and I was freaking out more than she was and I wasn't even the one about to give birth!
Nala will be getting fixed after the babies are homed.
But if I ever have to go through this again. My advice to myself would be trust my gut because not everything is on a schedule and goes exactly like what it says in the books...or forums. It took 6 hours from the time Nala's water broke to the time she went into active labor. Had I brought her to the vet they would have cash in hand and Nala would have probably had a c section that she didn't need causing her more pain and stress... And dragging her all the way to the vet to do what she could already do in a calmer setting was pointless.
So, bottom line is this stuff takes time. Go with the flow. your cat will tell you if something is wrong. When you freak it makes them nervous let her do her own thing.
Will post more pictures tomorrow!! I'm letting them be for now.
**** I am only sharing my opinion in what I experienced tonight. I'm not in anyway an expert!
I just updated my thread if you want to know details about her but she is still pregnant...obviously lol. They should be here any day now. Probably this weekend. How is nala and her precious little ones doing?
