Is it just me or is today the Mondayest of Mondays?

What kind of cake would you like for your birthday?

January is birthday season (seriously; I have 10 birthdays this month!) so cake is on my mind!  I'm not normally excited at the prospect of cake.  I don't crave it.  But I could go for a slice of Cannoli cake from a bakery in my hometown.  The bakery is well over 100 years old and I believe still family owned.  My Dad always orders it with a layer of peaches in the middle.  It is so good!!
Whenever we are in town for someone's birthday; we get that cake!  We used to get cheesecakes from another bakery that had been around for decades; but they had a fire about 2 years ago.  I heard they are making cheesecakes again; but they don't have a store front anymore so I'm not sure where you can buy them from.  I'd love one of those too.

My birthday is this month also. The only cake I'll be getting is the one I buy or make myself. That's not gonna happen. I don't need a cake all to myself. I'm not a big cake fan anyway. I do like the key lime pie from Publix (our local grocery store) but it isn't vegan of course and even if that weren't an issue I definitely don't need one of those all to myself cuz I'd eat it. all.

Blackout Cake!

It was what I always asked for as a kid.  Anyone have a good recipe for it?  The only ones I see now are mass produced and I'm not a fan.

King Arthur Flour has a recipe for it. I've never tried it but they really know their stuff.

http://www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/2014/04/21/chocolate-fudge-blackout-cake/

I remember Ebinger's blackout cake in NY when I was a kid. Oh so sinfully good.

Yes! Ebinger's! And then, Entenmann's made one also that was great but through the years, with substitutions made in the recipe it just doesn't taste the same.

Thanks for the King Arthur link also.  I always forget about them!

A white 2-3 layer coconut cake with lemon curd filling and lots and lots (and lots!) of coconut on each layer of filling and on the top and sides of the cake. It's the favorite birthday for me, for my sister, and for my brother. We only get one at Christmas.

I can make them and they're really good. But the calories are just sinful, so once a year is plenty....and since it's always one of our Christmas desserts, I never have the time to actually make one. So we order it.

(My mom used to make me a lemon meringue pie for my birthday dessert sometimes. She always made my sister and I liver and onions for our birthday dinners. We love that stuff, too.)

ETA: And that KA Blackout Cake looks positively decadent!!)

I almost got that cake for DD's birthday!
I was looking for something just for the day-of family celebration; but all the ice cream cakes came with a peanut warning so I couldn't.  I found some cupcakes that specifically said made in a peanut-free facility.  I guess grocery stores are accommodating allergy needs these days; which is really nice for me to see.

It would have to be a gluten free one. Bring it on. I am not picky.

i make from scratch cakes relatively often, but i never bother making anything (meal or dessert) special for my birthday. i always have some sort of dessert available here though.

thinking about this question, i think i'd really like to have one of those coconut cakes with the lemon curd filling that @Winchester mentioned. wow! that sounds like a truly great cake!

I bake regularly for dad, and he always gets a special birthday cake - a boozy boiled fruit cake topped with glazed dried fruit and nuts.

I'm not big on cake (or desserts in general), so I never bother for myself. Just not worth it.

If I have cake, and if I get purely what I want (as opposed to taking others' likes/dislikes into account), I'd want chocolate layer cake with strawberry filling, and whipped cream frosting *drool*.

Usually, I ask for deviled eggs in lieu of cake. And yes, I eat most of them. My mom makes the best deviled eggs. But usually, she wants cake too

Pina Colada cake is my favorite! My Moms recipe : just a white cake with cream of coconut poured on it after its baked. Whipped cream for frosting with coconut flakes sprinkled on top. It's simple yet delicious!

A fudgy chocolate cake, preferably homemade
I've never gotten one, though
It's always been a plain vailla cake from a supermarket or a sponge-like cake from a Chinatown bakery that has strawberries in it. Birthdays aren't really celebrated in my family

For my last birthday a co-worker got a tiramasu cake for me and other person whose birthday was the week after mine. It was a good cake

Definitely, a Lemon Cake!

My birthday is March 1st and a lemon cake just brings that fresh Spring color and flavor with it! Ohhhh, yeaaaaaaaaa! And a cup of good Arabica coffee and I am good to go!

Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese frosting.  When I was a child, my mother would ask me in advance of my December birthday what cake I wanted for my birthday, and I would tell her strawberry (from a mix) and she would decorate it as a carousel from construction paper, ribbons  and add animal crackers as the "horses" that would be on a carousel.  Many decades ago.
This question reminded me of that, thank you!

I'm not really a cake fan tbh.

I usually have Mud Pie from our local pizza / Italian place when we go out to dinner for my birthday you get a "free" dessert coupon in your e-mail every year. It has coffee ice cream with chocolate fudge in the middle, almonds and chocolate syrup on a cookie crust.

If I had to choose a cake I'd love homemade German Chocolate Cake. That is actually my favorite. Ice cream cake is good too but gosh darn it it's so hard to make and so expensive to buy.

Oh my birthday is September 24th.
