Is this the right amount to feed my cat?

Hi guys
My cat is going to be a year old next month. So far I have been feeding him 1/2 of 3 oz can and 2tbsp dry food twice a day. He always seems to want more. He is always indoors and moderately active. Any suggestions would really help. Thanks in advance

How much does your cat weigh? What brand of food do you feed?

3 oz of wet and a few tablespoons of dry a day doesn't seem like enough for a young, active cat; but, caloric value differs by brand.

This seems very minimal to me as well.  We need more information. My 2 adult cats eat about 3-5 oz. wet food a day along with about 1/8-1/4  cup kibble.

Is he naturally just a small cat? Most males weigh more than 8 lbs is why I ask. We have 5 mo old kittens that weigh 7-8.5 lbs; but, also have an 18 mo old that has finally peaked at 8 lbs (he has medical issues and it's actually to his benefit that he is naturally a small cat.)

Can you easily feel your cat's ribs or see an indent just in front of his hips?

If your kitty is at a healthy 8 lbs, then I would speculate that he would need *minimum* 220 Kcals per day.

If you are feeding both the Royal Canin kitten wet food (loaf in sauce) and Purina One kitten, getting 3 oz of wet a day and 1/4 cup of dry a day is only 200 Kcals per day.

I would suggest increasing his food. I would likely increase his wet food to half 5.5 (or 5.8 oz can in the case of Royal Canin kitten) in addition to the 1/4 c dry he is getting. However, you could chose to increase his dry to 1/3-1/2 c daily with the 3 oz of wet he is currently getting.
