Apart from her stroke and the thyroid issues, Miss Suze also has urinary tract issues.  Crystals and I believe the vet said an inflamed bladder (no bacteria, so not a UTI).  The vet recommended Royal Canin which I tried.  I like that it comes in the 5.5 oz cans and is pate.  But getting them from the vet is a royal pain, so I'm trying the Purina Pro Plan Urinary Tract Health Formula.  My problem with this stuff is it's morsels.  Both  Suzie and Simon basically lick all the sauce and leave the morsels.  They've done this with any sliced, morsels, etc., food that I've ever tried.  At this point, I'm just leaving the morsels in the bowl and eventually they'll eat them.

My question is:  has anyone had this problem with morsels?  Should I just continue to go on as I have been and hope they eventually don't leave the morsels behind?  Any suggestions.  If I have to go back to the Royal Canin I will but I like the convenience of getting the Purina.

I got them a water fountain so hopefully Suzie is drinking more (and Simon too).  She liked drinking out of the bathtub faucet, but I don't like letting the water run.  She is using the fountain, both the bottom portion, the stuff that bubbles up at the top and the water that flows off the little spout.  Simon likes his water moving (I lost one kitchen tile from all the water he's spilled moving the bowl--he's moved it 2 feet).  Thought the fountain would solve his problem, but he still tries to move it.  Fortunately I had to get a ceramic one and it's too heavy for him to move.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

I've never had to give my cats rx food for urinary issues. The closest would be Sara, but she's got kidney disease and the urinary food is bad for that. From what most folks here have said, the most important thing is to make sure they eat as much wet food as possible (vs dry) and to make sure they get enough water to keep their urinary tract flushed.

You may want to do some research into what makes the urinary food special compared to the non-rx food. I know for the kidney disease, the k/d is lower in phosphorus and protein. But phosphorus is the more important part.

Once you have a written prescription, you should be able to order the Royal Canin via the internet and not have to pick it up at the Vet every time you  need it.

Is the R/C meant to break UP the crystals, or to prevent further crystals.  That could be an issue.  I think the Purina One might be able to help prevent further crystals, but don't think it can help break up existing ones.  So, it really depends on her need as to what YOU need to buy
.  As to pate vs chunks, can you either smoosh up those chunks, or toss the can with a little more water into a blender and create your own pate out of it.  Some cates will eat it that way, and some won't, but it might be worth a try, and it's another way of getting more water into her.
