I know this is the holy grail, but I'm looking for a chicken-free non-pâté-style canned cat food that I can afford. Years ago my cats ate Merrick Thanksgiving Day Dinner and Cowboy Cookout, but now the former contains chicken and the latter is not very healthy.

I tried feeding dry food since it's cheaper and easier to find, but my (allergic to chicken) cat wouldn't chew it and began throwing up frequently--including throwing up blood because she was scratching her digestive tract with the unchewed food. Neither cat will touch pâté-style foods.

I've spent way too long analyzing ingredients in the pet supply store only to return home and find I have a bag full of pâté foods. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Nutro Natural Choice Sliced Turkey!! Most cats can't stay away from it.

Also natures variety  also has a line called "Pride" that is completely minced, chunks, or sliced food. It is slightly more expensive, but they have so many flavors like salmon, rabbit, pork, beef, duck, turkey, etc. :)

Also, Red Barn brand is VERY nicely priced and have a great "beef stew" recipe!

I was going to suggest Pride. It is a good line from Natures Variety.

NV is a pate. Pride is chunks.

Some of the Weruva foods do not have any chicken. All are non pate. http://weruva.com/cat-cuisine.php Most of the fish / seafood ones don't have chicken but a few meat ones are also chicken-free: Steak Frites, Glam 'N Punk, Lamb Burgini. The Soulistic line may have a few meat based with no chicken foods. http://soulisticpet.com/

Tiki Cat is another non pate option but the chicken-free foods are all fish / seafood.

Are there tiki foods in gourmet carnivore line without chicken?

Bravo's new turkey and beef fricassee foods are also chicken-less. Our cats love the turkey.

Some just posted a thread about non pate Lotus cat food: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/312363/lotus-just-juicy-turkey-stew The stew-like canned includes chicken-free varieties: http://www.lotuspetfoods.com/for-cats/canned-just-juicy/

@constantvelocit   Is it just chicken meat the cat can't handle or anything chicken? Some foods use "natural chicken flavor" and other similar things. it may nor may not trigger an allergy or sensitivty but I guess to be safe, avoiding everything listed as chicken or possibly coming from a chicken would be best.

I've been avoiding all chicken just to be safe.

I tried the Pride lamb last night and duck this morning and she wouldn't touch either one. The cat who can eat any old food loved them. Of course.

Nutro and Wellness have a fair amount of Salmon and turkey options in minced/sliced, etc.

I feel your pain. My cat that I was only feeding prescription limited ingredient pate foods too has decided pate no longer cuts it. I fed her a Wellness sliced turkey yesterday and there was an amazing amount of vomit. I'm not sure if it was because of the turkey, or because we took her beloved Christmas tree down. I wish I were kidding about that last part, but she really gets attached to the tree and gets stressed when it comes down.

Lotus Just Juicy Turkey is one I just discovered (I posted a new thread re: LJJ turkey.) It's single protein, shredded with minimal vegetables (carrots but very few and big enough to pick out).  It's on the high end of pricey though. :(

Thanks, everybody. I've got a nice long list to bring on my next cat food expedition. I have high hopes for the Nutro sliced turkey because she loves turkey but I couldn't find it anywhere locally. I might go ahead and order a case on Amazon but it's a big commitment in case it doesn't work out!

Our cats like that one a lot: Nutro Natural Choice does seem to be popular even among picky cats. Ours generally prefer shreds over pates but they even like NNC's chunky loaf foods, which are basically pates with big chunks of chicken or turkey.

Good luck!

They sell nutro at Petco and i think Petsmart, if you're in the US.
