Hello
My cats have worms unfortunately I have fallen into super hard times financially and I can't afford to take them to the vet right now.. but I got some deworm medicine from a friend that got it from her vet.. it's a yellow but it didn't come with a label or anything so I'm trying to figure out what it is to see if I'm giving the wrong dose or something. It smells like bananas and supposedly is safe for humans? That what she said... I'm trying to get rid of the worms as best I can. Ive given it to them a couple times weeks apart but im still see worms :/ These are my babies.. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

It's Pyrantel Pamoate. It's used as a wormer in cats, and also to treat certain worms in humans. Tastes and smells like bananas. It's pretty commonly given to kittens as a first time wormer. It does not kill hookworms or tapeworms in cats though, so it's important to know what kind of worms your cats have.

I do not know dosing on it, but it's possible you're giving the wrong amount OR your cats have a different type of worm that it doesn't kill. I know you can't afford a vet right now, but giving the wrong medications to cats could harm them. Can you look at the worms in their poo and maybe search the web for pictures and figure out what kind they have? Then maybe give your vet a call and see if he can prescribe something over the phone and give you instructions on dosing? Most vets will be pretty accommodating if you have a good history with them and explain your financial situation. They really do want to help your kitties.

I believe they are hookworms. They look like little rice and then stretch out and back. I will call the vet tomorrow. Thank you :)

most of the time hookworms are so small you can't even see them. They also rarely will pass through in a stool or puke. I would look at this and see which one best meets the description http://www.hartz.com/Cats/Health/Parasite_Protection/intestinal_parasites_and_your_cat.aspx  I can't tell you how many people including myself think when a cat passes a worm regardless of size shape they think hookworm. Hopefully it isn't.  If you want a little hint for the vet when you go they have both none prescription and prescription dewormer. You just need to word things correctly.
