Hello!
I have a problem. My young cat just gave birth to three beautiful furbabies on the 3rd January. Mommy cat and babies are fine. But today, I tried moving them to a new bed that I just bought, something more spacious and comfortable than the hard cardboard box. Little kittens are settling in their bew bed nicely and seems to love it but Mommy cat doesn't want to be in it keeps searching for the box (dirty with birth stains). How can I get Mommy Cat to like her new bed? Please help! :)

How young is she?  She may be a bit disoriented if she is really young.

Try putting the nest somewhere dark and quiet.  If she doesn't like the new bed you can get her another box like the one she gave birth in, but clean.

Please be aware that she can get pregnant again as soon as a week after giving birth.  Be sure not to let her outside or near any intact males until after the kittens are eight weeks old and she can be spayed.

She is nine months old. Boxes can be very uncomfortable for her kittens because they prefer somewhere cushioned. Is there any way to get her to get accustomed to her new bed?
I never let her outside, so she's safe from any male cats :)

How did she get pregnant if she's not allowed outside?  Just curious.

You could add some tshirts or flannel to the bottom of a box.  They don't need cushions, just something soft.  Like I said, putting the new bed in a place she feels more comfortable might help.  Someplace dark and quiet, with her litter box, food, and water near, would be ideal.  Make sure to feed her as much kitten food as she wants while she's nursing.

She was already pregnant when we took her in. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll be sure find a new box and layer it with soft cloth.

Thank you for taking her in! She may not go for any box unless it's in a location she considers safe and private. I feel like that's a big piece here.

I understand that now. She wants to be in the room with her babies. So I let her be. Also, I placed her cat bed in the box and she's getting used to it. I'm thinking of letting it be that way for a few more days to let her get accustomed to it and slowly try to move the bed out of the box later. Thank you so much for helping! This is my first cat with furry babies so I'm excited :)

I was going to suggest that you put the box over the cat bed. It's the feeling of privacy and safety that she is looking for. It sounds as though you accomplished the same thing by putting the bed inside the box.

If you put the whole thing in a closet with the door ajar, with food and water and litter in the room but nearby, as has already been suggested, around the time the kittens begin to open their eyes you can probably take the box away.

Good luck!

Covering slightly even, had litter near my bed so hung blanket over like a tent over their bed it worked.   *reasons for her to move litter were:

bedding is soiled, laying a fresh towel in bed to lie on daily or every 2nd day when larger.

When hot overheating they will remove entire litter place onto floor, thin blankets not to heavy work best or a few towels layered, large cushion covered.

Or when older crawling around if mom has one that constantly escapes she will consider to relocate.

Visitors peak in on them never ever  touching she would still instantly move the entire litter elsewhere.

Kittens can get smothered easily so learned to listen to mom, if she feels more comfortable in a simple box where she can keep a good head count I'd stick to that.  When very tiny it's a big hike to travel over mom's body if she twirls around their might be one or two that need to journey back to feeding positions again...or not just fall asleep. The bed in your photo for me I think would be purfect when they're older or drape a blanket over the entire bed for now so they cannot go into corners or under the cushion lip, plus not out in the wide open, when transferring to new bed use same blanket from previous bed so smells are all the same for kittens. They're also happy in their bed under a desk where a chair goes, just some thoughts.  Everything is all new it  takes a few days for new mom, babies to get settled ;)Good Luck
