But, she ate all the food I gave her this morning! *happy dance* I gave her 1/6 of a can of k/d, and she ate the whole amount! She always left a few crumbs behind before. Not this time though, not a crumb to be had. Not a single one. So happy!

She even came out into the kitchen and stared at me like she wanted more! I considered giving her more but I know her, been there done that, she'll take a bite and be done. Will give her some more in a few hours. I think she could smell the food that I'd fed the other cats and was wondering where it was :lol3: She'll be getting her treat very soon so that will make her quite happy. She has such a hard time chewing them (they have her meds in them) and it breaks my heart, but she still seems to enjoy them.

Had another successful feeding earlier. I gave her some food at three, locked her in the bathroom with it, and went to the store. Mom let her out about 45 minutes later, and there were some crumbs left, but otherwise she ate most of it! I've tried to give her the Clinicare RF a few times now, and she wants nothing to do with it, so glad she is still eating enough regular food.

She's sleeping right now. They'll all be getting their evening meal in an hour or two. It's Friskies night! She loves that stuff. Possibly some Purely later on (I picked some more up today).

She is sleeping so much lately. I am thinking it's probably the cold weather though. She was out and about more when it was warmer. She just doesn't want to leave that vent!

She liked the Purely just as much as the Appetizers. I think it's just a bit too meaty for her (ie too much to chew). She takes so long to eat it that she just gets tired of it and waits patiently by the door to be let out. So, she ate maybe half of it? She of course licks up all the juice and eats the shrimp though, that's her favorite part.

I'll be giving her some k/d soon. I may mix a half-teaspoon of kibble with it, since she does like kibble. She just can't eat a lot of it at one sitting because it's too hard. I just want to get more calories into her, I'm so afraid of her not getting enough calories.

How about mixing a raw egg yolk into her wet food. I know it's not particularly good for kidney cats, (higher in phos), but one egg yolk is about 60 calories, and is very nourishing.  Or there are OTHER cat milks out there besides the Clinicare.  Or have you tries Goats Milk.  That is supposed to be fine for cats, as opposed to Cow's milk.  Of course, there are the NutraCal pasts that she might lick off your finger.  Or the higher calorie canned foods like Hounds and Gatos.  Think those have around 220 cals per can, if memory serves.

I feel so stupid sometimes. I didn't even think about getting high-cal foods. I wonder if I still have the list from when I went shopping for Lucky? In his case it was all gonna be blended and syringe fed, so I wasn't too worried about consistency. In her case. I'll be looking for pates or minced. Of course it's single-digits out today...

Gosh, I have a cat that needs high-calorie food, and one that needs low-calorie food. No wonder I'm losing my mind.

And cats can have raw egg yolk? I know I've read they can't have raw egg white, wasn't sure about egg yolk though. I'm not even sure we have goat's milk at the store... I know they have it somewhere though, just not sure where. I know they have goat cheese though!

Oh, and really need to invest in NutriCal. Today's a good day to Amazon-shop.

Raw egg yolk is just fine :) It's only raw whites that are an issue.

Full fat goat's milk or yogurt is a great, nourishing calorie source too. My girl loved them when I was getting her weight up.

Hounds and Gatos is pate.  You've sorted Tanya's food list in Manufacturers order or something, haven't you.  Can you re-sort it calorie order?

Raw or cooked egg yolk is fine. (I used to feed raw, so know this to be a fact)   (Raw whites are a GREAT source of protein, but not high in cals.  Sometimes I use them to cut the phos in canned cat food
)  An ENTIRE cooked egg is fine.  Scrambled in butter is fine, best if unsalted butter, though, in her case.

I've sorted Tanya's list, along with all the ones I've added, in so many ways at this point :lol3:

Oh my goodness, I was considering giving her some butter earlier. Then I realized I don't have any, used the last of it to make soup last Sunday. But she absolutely LOVES butter. And cream cheese, and probably all the other things she shouldn't have. She used to sit there and stick her head onto my plate to pick up the stuff that would drop off my bagel; both she and Lucky did that. :sigh:

I'm trying to remember if it was her or Lucky that liked scrambled eggs. One of them used to steal it off my plate. I'm thinking it was Lucky, he was the really bold one. He stole a piece of chicken off my plate more than once. I could try that with her though, and it would be nice and soft. And less of a "yuck" effect compared to raw, haha.

She did finish the k/d with the kibble though! :woohoo: I gave her all kinds of praise and pets and chin scratches. That tiny bit of kibble gave about 27 extra calories! Of course, I only give her a 1/6 of a can of k/d at a time. I originally started with a third, then a quarter. She never 100% finished either one. 1/6 though seems to be perfect.

I sure hope you take some time to decompress. Do something fun. Which I know is hard because being happy right now makes us feel sad. If we were cats our guardians would slam us in a crate and take us to the vet for failing to eat right, probably some on and off grooming issues although I suppose neither of us has resorted to leaving poo on the bed. In between your spreadsheets on cat food and their various attributes and trying to stuff it in the right cat please take a minute to care for yourself.

Have had two weekends in a row where I just stayed home. Except for grocery shopping, but I guess that doesn't count. I will be going to a punk show on the 22nd. I have become a bit of a hermit though. Hoping it's more the weather than the other stuff.

I called the vet per their instructions since I didn't hear back this morning... they'll be calling me back later. So waiting for now.

Miss Sara Bear has been a bit out and about this afternoon! And she even went up by the dry food (that is up in the cat tree) and ATE some of it! That chomping sound was like music to my ears. She didn't eat a lot, but she had a few pieces.

That is wonderful news  Every positive means such a lot when caring for a sick animal. So pleased Sara's having a good day :D

I second what kittens mom kittens mom says about taking time for yourself - you have to take care of you too :hugs:

Heard back from my vet (he was back in today). He honestly felt it would NOT be a good idea to do the extraction because of all the problems she has. Especially any potential heart problem (since she has a heart murmur). Also since she is doing better, and we realized we just need to give her more time to eat.

His thought is if the pain seems to be getting worse at any point, we can see how she would do on a trial of pain meds. But right now, he prefers to leave things the way they are. And since she seems to be doing better, and I'm more patient in terms of her eating, I am apt to agree with him.

So no tooth extraction. I'm kinda relieved, to be honest.

It's a tricky situation, that's for sure.  Darn that heart murmur
