Hi,

I noticed on Sunday night that my little monkey was straining to pee and if he managed to - there was a little gel like blood on the top of the litter. So I took him to the vets and they said he had a lower feline urinary tract infection. They gave him some antibiotics and gave me some medicine to give him. He was fine on Monday evening and all day yesterday and even this morning around 4-5 but around this noon time I noticed he started to strain again and if he went to pee only a little bit would come out or nothing at all.

He also has a burst abbesses on his head (he always gets into fights and I do have him neutered) which I've been cleaning and monitoring. So I'm not sure if it is to do with that. But the vet said the antiboitics should help with any infection and he should recover.

But I'm really worrying that it might lead to a further blockage? I don't know what I should do, I spoke to the vet and she mentioned to keep him on the medication that she gave for a week: but if there's no progress to bring him back in.

I just feel really helpless. I'm not sure what I should do. Any suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Ava

@Avalina    If it were me, I would take Phoenix back in to see the vet.

The vet could take his temp, give him fluids, and make sure that he is not blocked.  Blockages are very serious in cats, and I am like you, I tend to worry a lot if any of my animals are ill.

Also the vet could perhaps give him something to relax his bladder, and make it easier for him to urinate. If it is crystals, the vet would probably suggest a change in food.

(I think they would need to do a urine analysis for this, through cystocentesis.)

@catnap That's what I'm planning on doing. I'm currently waiting for the vet to ring me back. He was peeing fine all morning and yesterday but this morning it seems to be small amounts or nothing. There's isn't any blood which is a good thing I suppose. But I'm still really worried. It's the momma in me.

I tend to stress alright when he is ill and tend to watch him like a hawk.

Thank you!

@Avalina   Yes, it's hard  not to stress when they are ill,  but for 'peace of mind', I figure it's good to just take him in, and get the 'all clear'.

If you can, can you keep us posted.

Best wishes for return of health to your Phoenix, and for you to 'not have to watch him like a hawk' after he gets better.

Though, for now, those 'hawk eyes' are really good to have. Take care.
