I think she really does need to see a vet as it could get infected. In the meantime, clean the eye with saline solution. This is boiled, then cooled, water with some salt in it.

I'm pet first aid trained, though I am not a vet, I'm going to say as far as I know anything with an eye problem should really be seen by a vet ASAP. It could be a corneal ulcer (basically a scratch on the eye) and that can become infected and get bad quickly (like needing surgery or losing the eye altogether if not treated). I don't want to scare you by saying this, but it is important to get to a vet and have it looked at.

Something else I learned in first aid is DO NOT use any human medication on your cat ever. Even if it is just eye drops, depending on the problem, it could make it worse.

If you can, first wash your hands, and try to check pull back the eyelids to check for any scratches or obvious foreign material. The more you know about the problem, the more you can tell the vet on the phone and they can gauge how urgently your cat needs to be seen.

talkingpeanut talkingpeanut The vet didn't specify exactly why, but I got the impression that salt around the eyes could be painful for them :dk: I just do what I'm told when it's a vet I know and trust ;)

And yes - ANY eye issue needs a vet visit, especially with a cut like that.
