Hello

I have just joined your very interesting forum.

We have an 18 year old male cat called Tommy, who has some kidney problems.

We have found he is more alert after B12 and would like him to have them more often.

Our vet is approx 15 miles away,
Tommy is not keen on travelling and at his age I feel should not have to go through the trauma.

I have read where owners are giving B12 at home and I would like to know where I get the injectable vitamin and the correct syringes and needles.

I believe there is even a video of how to do it on YouTube.

Please can anyone advise where to obtain the above.

Tommy would like to say Happy New Year to all the cats and owners out there.

I'm not sure where you are located, but you can obtain supplies from your vet. At the very least, he has to supply the prescription for the supplies (not sure about the B12, probably that too). You probably also want them to show you in the vet's office how to do it, and possibly try it yourself there.

Is Tommy getting subqs also?

Just wanted to also state - you want to make sure that anything you give to your cat, you run by your vet first. This includes OTC or prescription supplements. B12 is commonly used with kidney kitties, but you would still want to get their ok on it regardless before using it, even if you could get it without a prescription.

When i gave B12 i got u100 syringes from Drs foster Smith (online) but they don't sell the b12 anymore but your vet should.  Your vet can tell you exactly which type of u100 to use (probably the 0.3cc) and can provide the scrip.  They can also provide the B12.  Doing it is the easiest thing ever, your cat wont even notice.  Your vet can give you a demo, but even a youtube video is probably all you need.

Hi Cadillac Tommy and welcome to the forum !

I read your post a couple of days ago.....no time to reply 'till now.

I'm going to presume that the "Vitamin B" you're inquiring about is B-12.....you should ensure that's the case before you pursue your search any further.

IF it were B-12 that you were using, then here's a listing of sources for injectable Vitamin B-12 in the UK:  Methylcobalamin Sources - UK and Other Countries

That same site has a comprehensive coverage of all the  B-vitamins here: B VITAMINS, INCLUDING VITAMIN B-12

I'm sure you can find your way to that site's homepage - I'd recommend you bookmark it for future reference - it's a stellar reference site, solidly science-based but written in plain English (by a Brit, btw). While its focus is managing kidney disease, it's an oracle of general feline health info as well.

General discussion forums like this one are great for...well, general kinds of information and people sharing their personal experiences.....for almost all specific feline health conditions/diseases there are also specialized online communities which focus on only one of those. In the case of kidney disease, the woman who wrote and owns the site I gave you also sponsors a specialized online community dealing with that. The very best information and advice will be available there. Information on how the group works/functions can be found here: http://felinecrf.org/tanyas_support_group.htm   This is the group's "homepage": https://groups.io/g/tanyackd  - you'll see the green 'join-up' button at the bottom. (these groups use email as their operating platform - to best manage the information flow, I'd suggest you get a new separate email address reserved just for the group).

Hope something there helps!
