Hi, new here. I have a 5 mo old kitten who is experiencing some issues. When I first got her she was a normal kitten. Now, she's a different kitty. First off she had a uti which is now gone. She eats and drinks just fine. She doesn't play but purrs often. Her coat is greasy and there's dandruff but she still grooms herself. I just know something else is wrong. Unfortunately I am unable to take her to a vet as I'm on a very limited income. I've tried finding her a better home but no one seems to want her which makes me want her even more. Why is her coat greasy with dandruff, why doesn't she play? I have bathed her a couple times and her coat goes back to greasy the next day or so. Any advice would be appreciated. I refuse to take her to a shelter as there are no no kill shelters around me.

My shelter kitty had quite a rough coat when I got her at 4 months. 5 weeks later she is just starting to see real improvement . Your cat's diet might be part of the issue or parasites.

There are quite a few threads here that address this problem but I can't link because I'm on a phone. Search the site for "greasy coat." You'll find a lot of good information on dietary changes, supplements and shampoos.

As far as your kitten not wanting to play: is she lethargic or energetic but not interested in toys? If the former, she does need a visit to the vet unfortunately as healthy kittens are usually high energy. If the latter, you might just need a different toy. Da Bird is a wand toy that most cats can't resist. It is available at most pet stores and at Amazon.
