My vet has diagnosed my cat with this condition.  The spot is at the base of his tail and there are times when he is clearly very itchy and throwing himself around in circles trying to scratch the itchy spot - it's been very noticeable the past couple of days, no doubt because the steroid injection on Dec 22 has worn off.  She asked me to monitor him for three weeks after and then book another appointment and then she'll see if there is improvement... but I am not made of money and may not be able to afford all the tests he may need if the vet wants to test him for other things to see what the underlying problems are.

Has anyone treated this at home and noticed any improvements... or at least a reduction in itching?  Poor Casanova :(

I'm not personally familiar with it, but ive read about it and this link reminded me that the cause is often hard to pin down, but treatment with corticosteroids (like Prednisilone) is a common and often effective treatment.  Prednisilone is one of the least expensive medicines out there, and i would talking to my vet about it....
