Hi, I've been giving my cat sub q's with terumo needles and Amisino venosets. The needle hub is getting stuck on the venoset - the luer lock rotates but the needle is still attached to the venoset. How do I get the needle off? Thanks.

What @StephenQ said, that's what I've done. I have shaky hands and all too often just ended up pulling the dang cap off. So yeah, pliers was what I ended up doing. Those things are in there pretty solid at least!

This doesn't help your CURRENT situation, but I never use the Luer Lock Venosets.  Is there any reason you  use those?  (Sometimes if my hubby puts the needle on the regular Venoset I have a problem removing it without pliers just because he's so strong, but when I do it myself, which is most of the time, I've never had a problem with it coming loose while giving the sub-qs, plus the thing the "plain" Venosets are probably less expensive.  Think I pay about $1.10 per set)

Thanks so much for the advice! I ended up going to a clinic where a nurse had to use surgical scissors to remove the old needle.

I thought the luer lock made it easier to attach and remove the needles and create a tight seal. Any issues with the needle slipping off the venoset with non luer lock systems?

Thanks!

I've never had a needle slip off the venoset yet. I just make sure I push it on tight while it's still capped.  AND my practice is to put on a new needle once we're done giving fluids,  then put the entire bag with line and new needle in a plastic grocery bag and stick it in a drawer.  The line tends to get twisted around, etc, when I squeeze the bag into the drawer to fit so i can close it
.  Still never lost a needle.
