Congratulations! Keep up the great work!

I lost 2 pounds last week. I'll take it. I did do fairly well with my water intake. There was one day that I drank very little water at all.

GOOD MORNING!

I lost 2.5 lbs last week, which brings me to down 7.6 lbs so far this year. I'm excited so far! It's been fairly easy too, but I'm sure all of that was the food I ate over the holidays!

I also joined a gym on Saturday, so I'm excited to start that too!

Hope everyone has a great week!

I've been staying at the beach so I didn't get to my scales until this morning.
400 grams heavier :wife: That's very dissapointing. I haven't been drinking as much water on holidays either.
Things can only get better next week.
Well done everybody else
This is going to be a good year

I'm not sure whether I gained or lost weight. My scale seems to be messed up, it tells me I'm one weight, then I'm suddenly 10 pounds more. I'm just going to keep on exercising and eating healthier, not trying to focus too much on the scale.

I finally got the nerve to open up this thread and post. I've had issues with being overweight on and off my whole life. It'll go up for years, then be down (sometimes too much) for years. I'm back to the former right now lol. I actually already am signed up with a gym. Well, more a group-workout thing. But I've not gone since sometime in early November, I lost all oomph to do anything after Lucky died. Getting closer to the point where I want to get back. Just not there yet. It's a bit of a drive and long car rides still do a number on me emotionally, and with my pinched nerve that's been acting up.

Anyway... here I am. I bought a new scale for the home recently, and finally did a weigh-in yesterday. It's not nearly as bad as I thought! I was afraid I was over the "2" number. That's my hard-stop, lol. I weighed over 300 lbs and then started losing it in 2004. I wish I could say there was a "secret" because I'd bottle it up and sell it (I lost almost half my weight), but it was medicine that made me gain weight, and so stopping it made me lose weight.

I think I'd be at my most comfortable if I could lose about 20 lbs. I'd still be technically overweight, but "technically" can kiss my big bum. I don't care. Being just over a year away from 40 (yikes) seriously has made me not care about that kinda crap. I just want to feel better, and I know that's when I felt at my best.

I'm up for the water challenge. I usually aim for four 20-oz bottles of water a day. I've been very bad about that since Lucky got sick. I have reminders on my calendar at work to remind me to drink water every two hours. I've had several coworkers tell me what a great idea it is! I'm not sure I'll make it today. I could drink more toward the end but well, I want to actually be able to sleep tonight too, if you know what I mean!

Some interesting facts - if you guzzle water first thing in the morning, you'll probably never have a need for Miralax. By "first thing", I mean before coffee even. And by "guzzle" I mean you should be drinking so fast you feel your stomach expand. And no, it's not comfortable, but my goodness does it work to "wake up" the system. The article I read said 16 oz, but I think anywhere between 8-16 works. Another fact - the "rule" for most folks is to drink 2.5 oz of water for every gram of fiber you eat. So if you eat a lot of fiber, you need a lot more water.

Other things I've noticed - if you make it yourself, even bad stuff is healthier than if you buy it already made. Thinking my cheddar ale soup. I love to make salads, with my own home-made salad dressing. I make a lemon vinaigrette. I make what I call "rainbow salads" meaning they have every color of the rainbow. I also like apples in my salad - yum. And it's not as costly as it seems to make these things.

Ok, I think that's it.

Im starting this year off on a positive
I have lost 1.2 kg for the week. My waist is the same measurement :dk:
I ate a lot of wheat over Christmas - all the yummy stuff has wheat. My skin broke out and it was healing slowly, my sinus played up, I felt lethargic and I even got a dreaded cold sore :argh:
7 days without wheat and my skin is clear and I feel great. I am convinced now that I have a sensitivity to wheat. For me this is actually a good thing. Foods with wheat are the foods I overeat. That's where my fat gains come from. 2016 is going to be my year :woohoo:

We can all do this. We will do this. :high5:

I totally understand. I expressed all this to my doctor several years ago. A blood test was okay so she said no need to test for Celiac. I put myself on gluten free diet and haven't looked back. I don't want all that stuff I used to eat and I feel much better.

Hubby and I are trying to drop some pounds. I think everyone gets some extra during the holidays. My friends love me so good, they bake gluten free desserts that I really don't want. But I did eat some cake, and cookies that were gluten free.

We are weighing our food portions and really trying to cut back. Good luck everyone.

I did so well with the water challenge last week, but haven't been as good about it this past week. I've got to get back into it.

I did ok the day before yesterday with the water challenge, not so well yesterday though. As far as food, hahahaha. I've been so meticulous about Maple's diet that my own really has gone wayside.

November 16th my weight was 98kg, now it is 92.7kg that is 5.3kg (11.66 pounds) loss in two months.

My fat percentage is slowly getting better and better, it is already under 24%, but I still need to get around 12% off, which is over 11kg, that would be around 4 months if I can keep current weight decrease rate.

That is barely in time for summer season and I'm afraid that I might not be able to keep this rate until I start cutting calories or doing more exercising.

I have had bit less water now, water pipes are freezing so it is bit of hit or miss if I can get water. Usually it is something over 1/2 gallon a day that I drink up to 1 1/2 gallon or maybe even more during summer.

All water seems to exit trough my skin without stopping on route.

I'm doing mostly ok on the water challenge (said as I'm guzzling to catch up). On the food front, probably not doing as well :lol3: I will be weighing in later today!

I am down 5.4 pounds this week and a total of 12.6 since starting. Just 20 pounds to go for my first goal. 87 for the whole picture.

You are doing great.

And if you want some Pasta get it.  I LOVE Alfredo I mean I can live on it. I even make my home made pizzas with Alfredo chicken. Any way what I do is 2 ounces of dry pasta I boil it up. Then I get me some broccoli 1 1/2 cups is 60 calories. I also use the tyson frozen fajita strips and lite alfredo sauce. The whole meal is 405 calories. Which is a great dinner for me.

I'd like to join in? [emoji]128588[/emoji] I've struggled with my weight for years, lost about 35 pounds in 2014 doing Atkins, but gained it all back about a year later. (I have a bad hip that will likely need replaced within a few years so I really need to do this.) I feel like a 52 year old living in an 80 year old body sometimes. So for me this isn't about losing weight, it's about gaining something: freedom from pain!

I am scheduled to undergo some dental stuff this coming Monday, what better time to start, huh? [emoji]128513[/emoji] Another thing that is motivating me a little bit is knowing that losing weight won't be for nothing, as they say. Previously, I'd lose weight and lost a lot of my self consciousnesses, only to be too embarrassed to strike up a conversation because I have a couple lousy teeth. Which shouldn't be an issue by the time I get my crowns, cavities, and implant done. [emoji]128079[/emoji]

Plus, of course, I want to be able to play on the floor with Robin again, which was my motivation back in 2014. [emoji]128077[/emoji] Guess I'll post again in...2 weeks? Now to weigh myself...[emoji]128530[/emoji]

Congratulations, JTbo, on your weight loss! Good job!
Thx! I'm bit puzzled about why my weight decrease does not kind of feel, but maybe it is that one gets used to lower weight faster than weight changes?

From August 2015 I have lost 18kg that is 39.6 pounds, unless I have made mistake at calculating and booking, that seems a lot, but I don't feel that different, only some minor things like getting up is not a big task and climbing to cellar with ladders (no stairs) is not much different than walking on level ground, where that used to be huffing and puffing like a locomotive at 2010 (or was it 2012?, I can't remember when I first started loosing weight), back then I did weight close to 140kg (308 pounds) and now today's scale reading was 92kg which is 202.4 pounds, that is quite big drop, in my books, I have not been at this weight since my teenage years and that is long time ago.

Maybe there will be more difference when I have reached that 12% of fat and start building endurance and strength while trying to maintain body fat of less than 15%.

I have seen many drop close or over 4 pounds a week, that is quite lot, but I guess that it is also different for you girls, for me roughly 1200kcal deficit in a day is maximum I can do now because I have less weigh (fat).
As it is only possible to loose 69kcal for each 1kg of bodyfat in 24 hours and as fat is 9kcal for each 1 gram, it is around 2 pounds a week which I can loose at maximum with my current bodyfat amount.

If I make bigger deficit than that, I will loose something else, muscle maybe, body needs to take energy somewhere and even heart is a muscle!
If I get more weight drop than 2 pounds a week, I might have lost liquids or muscle along with fat, so even I have not been pushing even near maximum weight loss, I wont be doing very fast fat loss from now on, no matter how much I push, as I have lot less bodyfat than when I began. I can drop lot more weight than 2 pounds a week, but anything over that 2 pounds will be something else than fat.

To loose 5 pounds of fat in a week, I think one needs to have over 40kg (88 pounds) of total bodyfat, I hope everyone stay healthy and be aware of limits, remember to loose fat, not weight! :D

For 80kg (176 pound) person to have 40kg (88 pounds) of bodyfat, bodyfat percentage should be then around 50%, rough idea about bodyfat percentage can be found from pics in this link:
http://www.builtlean.com/2012/09/24/body-fat-percentage-men-women/

So when you know roughly what bodyfat percentage you might be, you can calculate amount of bodyfat like this 176 * 0.5 = 88, so 50% becomes 0.5 and 30% becomes 0.3 and so on. That should help to determine rate of fat loss that will not cause issues like tired feeling, pain in lower back, headache etc. Which I have got my share of when I tried too quick drop, first week no problem, 3rd week I felt like being seriously sick, I did learn hard way, also I did got put off from weight loss several times when hitting that feeling and gave in easier to sweets etc.

Not that I would stay away from sweets now, but it is less severe.

Amount of protein intake is hugely important, that is where I struggle too, but getting bit better, any protein deficit will melt muscles and make tired, exhausted feeling, lowering carbohydrates has less ill effects, lowering fat also, but lowering fat much below 80 grams a day might have issues as fat is fuel for brain and I'm not all too sure bodyfat is what brain can use, fish oil is great for anyone having a diet.
For protein, 80-100 grams a day is what I aim to, if I move a lot even 120 grams. Often I manage to get only 60 grams though and it has had poor effect to muscle amount, I have to work myself lot to gain back losses after diet, simply because I have not followed diet I know I should, cutting protein and adding carbohydrates happens when taking those sweets I should not take, so that is important, I would say miss calorie target, but don't miss protein target!

I just thought to share what I learned, I did share similar information at last year's thread, but I thought as we have more friends now that have started from new year that it might help out and serve newcomers and to be reminder for others and also for me as I tend to forget things often!

I even wish that it would push myself to stay on track more, I slip a lot, I pay the consequences as poor results, but I know how I should do, maybe sharing will motivate me to stay on track much better, I hope at least :D

Stay well everyone and keep melting that fat! :)

Thanks jtbo jtbo
The first week of 2016 was great for me then I spiralled into eating after dinner one too many times. This week I've picked myself back up and I'm feeling strong and the scales are going down. I just have to hang in there until Monday.
You can do it everybody. Keep going.

I think the amount of weight lost per week depends on the person, and also where they are in their weight loss journey. I don't have a ton to lose (only about 30 lbs to lose to hit my ideal weight, which for my body is 135 lbs or a women's US sized 4.) I ALWAYS drop like 4-5 lbs per week for the first couple weeks, because I'm switching from eating pasta & french fries to salads & chicken breasts. I'm sure quite a bit of it is water weight/bloat from cutting down on the carbs and sodium.

I use the My Fitness Pal app and log everything I eat, which usually puts me eating around 1200-1300 calories a day for weight loss. It's supposed to be 2 lbs a week, but lately it's been a little more loss. I'm sure that will slow down as I lose more weight though. I think a lot of people lose more weight initially, and slow down eventually as their body gets used to eating more healthfully and exercising.

Great information though @JTbo! Also a great reminder to lose fat not weight. :) I struggle a lot with getting enough protein too, and have a huge love for carbs. I basically have to ban pasta and chips from my house because they're my trigger foods. I can easily eat 1/2 a big bag of potato chips in one night without thinking about it.

I honestly tried to understand the fat percentage thing. I couldn't. What I understand is If I eat less and move more I get results.

I started on 1/3/16 I weighed in at 283 pounds. I am only 5' 5". My BMI was 47. I am morbidly obese. I write down everything I try to keep my calories between 1200-1500 a day. I am always cleaning, when I am not sick like this week. I wash down walls move furniture and shampoo carpets. I also dance my babies. I only drink water now.

At my last weigh in I weighed 270.4.  I have lost 12.6 pounds in two weeks. It's normal at least for me to lose at a faster weight when I start. I then slow down to the couple pounds a week. I dont think I will pull a good number this week. I have been sick, so not moving as much. Also its my lady time. I noticed a one pound gain yesterday, I cried. But I didnt wavier. My calories yesterday was 1300.

My sister lost over a hundred pounds a few years ago and has keep it off. She was 275 and now 150. She didnt count calories just did portion size and always had sunflower seeds. I tried her way and failed. Each person is different. And has to do what works for them.

Oh and by the way every one is doing Great. Doing something and trying to make a change is better than nothing.
