Thanks for all the nice messages. I'm feeling much better, almost back to normal now. I lost 5lbs last week!

I've just done an hour of gentle yoga, heading out for a walk this afternoon.

@rpandcat  I'm planning to start running again this year. At the moment the ground is frozen so it's too dangerous. All the roads around here are dirt tracks, so if you put your foot through the frozen layer at the top you can easily trip or twist an ankle. I'm going to treat myself to a new pair of running shoes for my birthday, in March, and start running then. I used to do 6km four times a week, might take me a while to build back up to that.

You don't get enough long cold temperatures for ground to freeze completely?

This year we might get record depth of frozen ground, when building something it is required to have support at least 2 meters into ground as above that it is possible ground to be frozen and that moves things out of place then, this winter it might get close to 2 meters because we don't have more than 4cm of snow and our cold spell was quite bad, now temperatures are bit better, but still -15C so ground keeps freezing deeper. My waterline is not quite enough deep, so I might be ending without water soon.

Shop visit today, quite windy so I might come back longer route as it runs in a forest and has not so much wind.

Windy cold is worst, especially when air is moist, brrrr!

Temperature was only -13C (8.6F) when I got back from shop trip, I did not ride awfully fast in my opinion, but HRM did show average HR of 131 and 529 calories burned in 43 minutes.

My spreadsheet claims that bicycling had 207 Watt average power, not sure if that is accurate or not, it uses formula where from HRM reported calories are converted to Watts, base consumption (BMR) is removed first of course.

Right side of my throat is some soreness when swallowing, so it might be some form of flu coming.

Usually the ground freezes completely and it's as hard as rock until about March. We're having a very mild winter though, we haven't even had any snow yet. This time last year the snow line was down to 700 meters but at the moment all we've got are a few streaks of snow from 2000 meters up. I guess the El Nino isn't having the same effect where you are?

40 minutes on my bike today.

I tried to walk the treadmill this morning and cannot. I even went down to the basement as soon as I got out of bed and turned on the treadmill and let it run for about 15 minutes while I fed the cats and Jackie their breakfast, thinking it might warm up a bit. Went back down and the belt is really slipping anyway. I tried, I swear I tried, but it's just not working out properly. I will walk today at lunch (we're supposed to get snow showers, but I can walk in snow).

Thinking about trying to do some elliptical time in the bedroom.....but boy, I hate that thing.

Here it is bit more complicated than just El Nino, we are at edge of sea climate, so depending how big air currents move we get either bite from North pole, Siberia or warm sea air from west. El Nino changes those air currents and there is chance for milder winter, but also it might lock cold air here for long time.

Right now we are having a snow storm, so soon I get snow moving workout, for free :D I hear one should think positive way, not sure if this works.

Oh and weekend forecast is again close to -30C temps, this is reducing amount of my workouts seriously..

I'm quite glad that it isn't snowing yet. We got 2 meters in one night a few years ago and the whole town shut down for a few days while we dug ourselves out.

An hour of yoga this morning then about 30 minutes bike ride. What are you going to do about your treadmill @Winchester  Are you going to buy a new one? One of my students just bought herself one of these, a chair for doing sit-ups and leg raises on. Looks like some kind of medieval torture device to me.

That is an interesting "torture device"!

Rick says he's going to look at the treadmill again. I think the belt is tightened enough, though, and I really don't know what to do for it. Cleaning the belt and greasing things didn't work at all; in fact, we think it made the slipping worse. I'll get on it and it goes from 3 mph down to 1.7 mph, up to 3.2, down to 1.4, up to 2, then back down again, and so on. And it does that now for almost 3/4 of a mile, the whole time. And I'm hanging on to the rails. Rick got on it the other night and he agreed something is wrong. Whether it's simply the cold in basement causing this or if there's something wrong with the treadmill itself, we don't know. We thought a good greasing and cleaning would help, but it has not.

We got it at Sears years and years ago and it has quite a bit of mileage on it. I mentioned to Rick about bringing somebody in to take a look at it, to see if there's anything that can be done. It's $100 just for the service call and then extra for anything that might have to be done. I don't know how much a new belt would cost, but I'm sure it's not cheap. Rick said we can buy a new treadmill, if need be, but it would have to go into the basement and we're not sure if the cold down there would do the same thing to a new treadmill. And believe me, the basement is the only place we can put a treadmill....we have no room upstairs.

Of course, there is that
 elliptical in the bedroom.........darn it.

I don't think I'll be walking today outside. We have snow and ice. I thought I had bought new YakTrax, but evidently, I did not. And I'm not walking outside on snowy sidewalks and an icy road without them. That's just a fall-on-my-butt waiting to happen. I'm going to have to get down to Dick's for YakTrax.
