Husband and I are walking 2 miles every day. I am looking for a stationary bicycle for use on days when it rains. Does anyone have suggestions of a good one they are currently using.

I did ride 2.5 hours with bike today.

First 1 hour and after that 1.5 hours, I'm bit pissed to myself now though, there is one climb and I made good effort on that climb, but turned around 250 meters too soon, if I just would of rode bit further my time would of been on top 3 of that climb.

It is bit over 5 miles long 4% climb, that has three much steeper than 4% parts.

Some day I will make another attempt, maybe I will be faster then, I had winter clothing that adds weight and of course slows me down, my estimated time was enough close that perhaps during the summer I get to 1st place on that climb.

Got about 35 minutes of arm exercises. followed along with a youtube video but they were moving way too slow so I added some other stuff. And I miscalculated weights I am using..I had someone go weigh the bundle I made of tools..turns out the max is only 24 lbs and the ones last week were only 18-19 lbs. I dont know why I thought they were heavier until I looked online for the catalogue..so for now I am at 23 lbs for shoulder press standing up. I use smaller bundles for single arm exercises like 6 to 8 pounds. Sometimes 11 pounds if its a small range of motion.

So got some good exercising in but no cardio. ran out of time but my shoulders have that pleasant burn. My legs are sore too so that means I did enough yesterday. I also took the suggestion of protein before my session. about half an hour to 45 min ate a 20gram protein bar-I think it made a difference. I am not hungry which is good. One day at a time..Sat will be my 4 week point. and today is Thursday
I think the first two weeks are always brutal when starting something new because we are sore tired and cranky..

Last day of the week for me. I ate 4 choc chip cookies before I trained and that wrecked me I think? i felt a bit sick. Or maybe I was fatigued and that's why I ate the cookies in the first place? Either way they were not good sitting in my tummy before exercise.
I discussed with Rohan what exercise I could do to burn my legs out and help firm up my wobbly glutes and he suggested power squats and power lunges so I was eager to give it a try. I did my hamstrings and then 4x 1 min power lunges. i go great for the first 20 secs and then it all goes wrong after that ;)
Then I did my triceps and abs. I'm pretty tired now. Looking forward to my rest days. :D
No rest for you guys. ;) Keep working hard :lol3:

I did an hour of yoga and a 90 minute walk yesterday.

I spent most of today outside. Chopped up one dead tree and dragged all the logs over to the log pile. Picked up loads of smaller fallen branches. I then collected all the spare or broken bits of fence post together to see what could be salvaged, sawed them into equal lengths and started to make another outdoor climbing frame for the cats. I'll post some pictures when it's finished.

Feeling those lumberjack muscle aches in my shoulders and around my ribs now.

I did 45 minutes of leg exercises and some tummy tucks=will have to find a photo to show-I get up on my hands and hang inbetween these two objects then pull my knees to my chest and if i can i straighten out legs and lift legs-thats much harder.

i followed along a video from the same person as the one i posted the other day but only focus on legs. did some running inbetween sets.

2.5 hours of bike riding today too, it was raining slush, ice, water and 2 inches of slush accumulated on road, some packed ice/snow too.

Reached 49km/h / 30.45mph at downhill without really pushing.

I have this kind of tire as a rear tire in my mountain bike, front tire is called Race King from the same brand:
http://www.continental-tires.com/bicycle/tyres/mountainbike-tyres/speed-king-2-2

I had no issue with grip, those tires are incredible, fastest there is and still grip better on snow than many so called winter tires.

Well the boyfriend wanted me to go walking around the neighborhood and we did. We were gone about half an hour. We have this huge hill on our street that is a loop type road so we went down the steep part then up the other side of the hill until we reached the top. Turned around and I ran down it but tried to go slow. Then walk around this path through the woods but it ends abruptly so we turned around and headed back up the hill we first climbed down. Had a good sweat and my knee was acting up. So now today I got two sessions in for working out. Doubt I will make a habit of this. Tired!

2 hours of splitting rounds and removing bark from logs.

My axe weights over 6 pounds, today I noticed that my heart rate is not getting even to zone 1 anymore when using the axe, it seems that workouts really do pay off.

I need heavier axe now.

1 hour 34 minute recovery bike ride, doing recovery ride when you live in area with hills requires bit custom build of bike gearing, but it is doable:

For example,. when cycling, rest day is such that I ride very light recovery rides, instead of being completely at rest for the day, it keeps body ticking and actually makes recovering faster.

So maybe some weightless moves which don't take effort at all might be good to keep those muscles active and speed up recovery process?

1 hour and 39 minutes of moving logs from forest to yard today, also I did fell one big tree and made it to short logs.

Tomorrow I help making firewood at local farm, it should be nice workout day again.

I have been exercising, I just keep forgetting to post here.

Sunday: 90 minutes walk.

Monday: 30 minutes shoveling snow, 30 minutes on my bike.

Tuesday: 60 minutes walk.

Today I have a lot more yard work that needs doing, but I'm hoping to find time for yoga too.

Keep up the good work everyone.

I trained with Rohan again today. Chest and biceps and then went for a 25 min jog with my kids on their bikes. They argued ect... :argh:
These kids need the exercise so I'm trying to grin and bear it :D Hopefully as they get fitter they will enjoy it.

Good Job Tammat for getting the kiddos off their butts. I don't ever remember being at rest as a kid. My dad hung a basketball hoop on the barn when we were kids so I often shot hoops or rode my bike or climbed trees in the woods. Of course most of the time I was alone and on the move. I don't remember sitting around the house unless it was winter but even that I would go out and cross country ski in my yard (we had a huge lawn) before the bus came. I guess I was a hyper kid. Of course back then the bus didnt come until after 8? so I was up and ready to go by 6am.

Now as an adult I hate getting up. It takes so much to get me moving with my allergies and aches. But once I am up I stay up. I am thinking about getting a stationary bike to go with my eliptical machine I got at a yardsale for $20. I need to clear out the office of packing boxes and crap I never unpacked..seems I just get too darn lazy..So for now I really need to use that machine when I come home from work or start making plans to go to the gym. I do my workouts at work but limited to how heavy of weights so I call this my pretraining..get the body ready for the real hard work
My problem is my day is long. When I come in at 5 I just want to stuff my face and collapse on the couch. But I always have am/pm meds for the cats/scoop the litter/vacuum/laundry or other such thing that needs to get done so by the time I am done its 7pm. too late to workout. If I do then I cant sleep. We need more hours in the day!
