Ok, ok.....I'll TRY to be good :angel3: I spent the afternoon in bed with Asha, and have just had an Epsom salts bath. Sitting leaning on a heat pad now. I'll do better tomorrow......I hope.......

@Columbine

Would Ice help?  I am a convert to ice when I have pain in either my shoulder or knee. For my back, I use heat.

Oh, and you better rest up.... I am keeping my bag out--not packed, but out... I have to get Artie's carrier ready also.

I did go to the gym today; even though it is a holiday. I was surprised to see a lot of people in there.

Success for me:  I managed to do 25 minutes on the elliptical for 1.30 miles! no resistance, but I am ecstatic...

It was tuff, especially the last 1/2 mile, but I forged through it.

My heart rate was not high either!!! an accomplishment! Now if only body follows through.. I wish I could get stronger.. I am trying to increase the weights a bit, but my arms are so weak.. I know, what do I expect because I had surgery on my shoulder, with part of the biceps tendon cut...(the long head--there are to branches, long and short)

and the bursa sac removed. So I am not pushing it.

artiemom artiemom - I can't deal with ice, or any kind of cold therapy. I'm a cold person to start with, and ice just gets way to intense for me :cold: I tend to think of ice for bringing down inflammation, and heat for relaxing tight muscles. A lot of my pain stems from muscles going into spasm (with the sciatic pain, muscles go into spasm, pull my spine or pelvis out, and being out of alignment is what causes the pressure on the sciatic nerve), so my instinct is that heat will do a better job ;) For the kind of pain you had, ice was absolutely the way to go. Just my :2cts:

:woo: Congratulations on the elliptical today. Those things are the work of the devil - seriously. Give me a treadmill .... actually pretty much any other cardio equipment ..... any day!

Be patient with your arm strength. It will come, but it will just take time. You're doing great  Be proud of that for now, and look how far you've come already :hugs:

Sorry, was not aware of the issues with ice.. it is a love/hate relationship.

Thanks for the encouragement... yes, mastering the elliptical is my goal--and the bane of my existence..

Ta Da!! This is my functional trainer. I guess all the business with the warranty kind of took the shine off it for me however I'm befriending it now and we're becoming besties [emoji]128512[/emoji]
I don't know how to put 2 pics on one post sorry.
Anyways I just did my biceps and triceps and I'm going to go out for a walk. I have accepted that it's winter and its cold out there so just get on with it [emoji]128521[/emoji]

Well...I tried to be a BIT more sensible today, especially as the sciatic pain is still very present. Did 15 mins gentle yoga, then went for a walk into and wander around town for 1hr 15 mins. Break in mind that everywhere is hilly round here (and I mean pretty steep hills too ;) ). Exhausted now - was all but falling over my feet on the way home. So...probably more sensible than yesterday, but still not ideal in the circumstances :anon:

Loving your new setup tammat tammat  VERY smart :D

Nice, Tammat! Truly. You did good! I like it.

Artiemom, I hope you do better with the elliptical than I did. Once I was able to get back to the treadmill, I pretty much gave up on the thing. Which was rather stupid in the long run, I suppose. BUt I really do hate that elliptical.

Columbine, all good things take time. Slow and steady wins the race.

4 miles on the treadmill this morning. Yep.....four miles!
It was wonderful. It was glorious. And I did it with virtually no pain whatsoever. My goal now is to stay at four miles for a week, then split the four into two 2-mile increments. I would walk 2 miles in the morning on the treadmill, and then 2 miles during lunch. I don't know that I can do four miles every morning, but we'll see how it goes. Rick has noticed that I'm in the basement for a longer period of time than I used to be. He is not amused.

(I really need to get outside during my lunch break; as it is right now, when I stay in my office over lunch, evidently nobody realizes that it's still my lunch so they come in and out as they would normally. Somebody came into my cube and  asked me last week, "Why are you reading a book during working hours?" And I said, "Because it's my flippin' lunch hour, that's why!!!"
I need to get out of here during lunch!)

That's more like it @Columbine  Too much exercise too soon after an injury just means it takes longer to get back on form, so in the long run you end up exercising less than you would have done if you rested properly.

That looks great @Tammat  My home gym consists of a yoga mat spread out on the deck.

I did an hour of yoga yesterday, then an hour walk with Little Boy, followed by a 30 minute run.

Walks with Little Boy aren't that strenuous, we spend a lot of time investigating interesting smells in the long grass and rolling in the dirt. (Well, he does anyway.)

I did my exercises last night.

3.5 miles on the treadmill this morning.

It's my normal exercise night tonight, so will have to do them again.

Did 35 min on incline elliptical last night

then squats/calf raises/chest press/ deadlift.

I ate a few bites of a protein bar while on the elliptical to try to offset the headaches I get from lifting. I also started drinking gaterade before and during workout and its helping with headaches. my bp is perfect and no issues with bloodwork so it maybe because I don't eat right before workout as lately I don't have time to eat and don't want to go in with junk on my teeth. So I know I can brush my teeth but then I wont drink enough water-having mint breathe and drinking Gatorade
yuck!

I get a kick out of Judge Judy when I am on the cardio machines. There really are some DUMB people out there who are scammers. amazes me!  Zoom on everyone!

I love Judge Judy! I am a regular watcher!

I have to somehow get to the gym later today.

My issue today is: a choice of 2 or 3 showers in one day...ugh!!

Not that I am OCD, but I always shower when I return from the gym, and when I return from the shelter.

I am doing both today!! yuck.. torture..

It is either the three showers.. morning, after gym, after shelter

or;

morning shower, gym--stay sweaty, go to shelter in same clothes and then shower...

A real dilemma..not that I do not mind being clean, but I do not want to overdo it; never mind all the towels...

I usually just do a quick wash in the morning, gym, shower then errands...but today is different...sigh.

I cannot miss the gym..unless something comes up during my morning errand. I have to be wide awake for that.

just bring a change of clothes. Its going to be 96 where you are-everyone will be sweaty. I just bring a change of clothes. Nothing worse than hanging out in soaking wet undergarments. I totally understand.

At least I wont feel so grungy because all the guys here at work will be sweaty and I wont worry about stinking because they all stink worse than I ever could even on my sweatiest workout. Amazes me. Yeah bring some fresh clothes-you will be sweating again at the pet place anyways or do they have cool enough ac? I sweat at work even WITH ac. So it doesn't matter to me. No matter how much I try to not sweat I just do.

I try to get to the gym right at 4pm to watch an hour of judge judy on channel 4. That's when I do my cardio. and if anyone gets in the way of the tv at home I get pretty ticky. That's the only thing I watch religiously. Judge Judy. Stay cool everyone!

Just over an hour and a half of yoga today. I think I've mostly recovered from Collie now - just lingering fibro flare and spasmy muscles. To be honest, that's so normal for me that I can't tell if it's Collie related or not anymore :slant: I'm still all kinds of interesting colours in places, but the bruises are slowly fading.

I did my errand--still not resolved; but they are working on it..

Went directly to gym. I only did 20 minutes of the elliptical ( one mile) and then the rest of the machines.

I did not want to push myself too much because I am going to the shelter later. That will be more exercise for me.

@Columbine    still take it easy.. bruises are bruises; they mean you were hurt.

@foxycat    I am just doing a change of clothes. It is too darn hot outside. Really hot. You shower yourself with sweat just from going outside for a minute.

My foot started leaking again yesterday evening, now it is thick red, maybe I have been sitting too much, I should just stay in bed I guess, but at least it is quite shallow wound now, should not take long until it has grown fully again.

We have had 48 to 52 degrees (9-12C) and constant rain for 2-3 days now, but it really does not bother me much, I can't go outside anyway with this foot.

:eek:hno: That doesn't sound great JTBo :( Rest up and let it finish healing - hopefully it won't be TOO long now. Such a nasty injury though :cringe: Sending you a ton of healing :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes: :vibes::vibes:

@JTbo    I once had a nasty, nasty wound on the bottom and side of the heel of my foot. I was on vacation the day it happened, actually, I was packing up to drive home. I had to be out of the cottage by a certain time.

I delayed getting medical treatment for it. It did not stop bleeding, even though I packed it really well, and stopped to change the dressing. Because it was 3 hours since the injury, stitches were not recommended because of the risk of infection; although in retrospect I found a doctor who would have taken a chance and given me a very strong antibiotic, just in case.

I had to wait until the entire thing healed completely. I mean completely. It took weeks, if not at least a month or 6-8 weeks. I discovered  the wound has to heal from the inside to the outside. The outside takes longer to heal.

The more I tried to put weight on it, I was just breaking down what had healed internally.

I had to keep using crutches. It took a long time, and was very frustrating..

I am thinking that is what is happening to you. The red fluid is from the area not healed. The more you do with the foot, the more you are breaking down the area which wants to heal. You are destroying it by using your foot..

Sorry if I sound harsh, but I wanted you to know my experience.

I think so too, that is why I have stopped doing pretty much everything, so that wound would not break all the time, I still need to visit toilet and get water, but I'm down from ~20000 steps a day to 300-500 steps a day, however that seems not to be quite enough, sitting seem to stress that spot too so I have limited quite a bit of sitting time, lying on bed most of the time, I feel like being in coma most of the time :lol3:

But I really want to get outdoors, I mean really really want, it's not that indoors drive me crazy, no, but I have this faint feeling of not being so well, can see a problem? :lol3: :
