Here in Florida we have Publix, Super Wal Mart, Winn Dixie and an average (not super) Target

I shop at Publix most often. Publix has been ranked the #1 grocery chain in America numerous times and they deserve that title. They are great. Shopping there is so pleasant compared to the hellhole across the street mentioned below.

I try to avoid Wal Mart like the plague. I call it A) a necessary evil sometimes and B) the seventh circle of hell. There has not been one time that I went in there and didn't come out annoyed or aggravated.

I go to Target when they have something I need on sale. They are so much better than WM but they are an average store and only have limited groceries.

Winn Dixie is pretty far out of my way so I really don't shop there. It's nowhere near as nice as Publix so it's not worth going out of my way to get there.

There are Whole Foods and Trader Joe's around but not close by.

We have 2 grocery stores here, Independent and Foodland. Independent is a huge store with toys, clothes, decorations, etc but it's expensive and they are known in the community for keeping expired products on the shelves. They do great things for the community though with providing food a events, helping charities, etc. Foodland is a tiny store (like maybe 6-7 small aisles). It's pricey too and not much of a selection. We tend to go into the city to No Frills to shop. It's much cheaper and worth the 20 minute drive.

I live half way up a volcano, there is nothing round here.

There is one supermarket down in the village, about a half hour drive away. It's an Ogino, a local supermarket chain.

The next village is a little bigger and has a J-Mart house and garden store and a couple of drug stores. They've also got a Don Quixote, a discount sell-everything store. I very rarely go there though.

In the town I live near, there is a Dollar General and a Shurfine-brand grocery store (that's not the name of the store but that's the chain it belongs to). It has a very limited selection, very few fresh foods, high prices, and I don't like Shurfine generics. I rarely go there, only if I need something basic quickly. I go to Dollar General more often but their prices are still higher because it's a small town. The vet sells pet food.

The town my parents live in is larger so they have a Super Walmart and a Hy-Vee. The prices are pretty normal, and selection is OK. Walmart is worse during the summer because it's a college town and they don't stock as much while the students are gone. Hy-Vee has better fresh meats but that Walmart's produce section is decent.

I usually go to Sioux Falls to shop and they have several Hy-Vees, a Sunshine Foods, and Fareway (OK, there are probably others but those are the ones I've been to). I do most of my grocery shopping at Costco and Walmart, but if I need to get something they don't have (or I don't like the quality of the Walmart brand), I mostly go to Fareway because it's right next to Costco :lol3:. There is a health-food type store that I call a mini Whole Foods, and a more hippie health-food co-op. I go to those occasionally. But the prices aren't great.

I go to Omaha once or twice a year and usually hit Whole Foods and Trader Joe's while I'm there.

The Walmarts in the area seem just as clean and well-run as any of the other stores. They did go through a period of poorly-stocked shelves but I think that was a national problem, and was identified and fixed. But I have been to Walmarts in other states so I think I know what people are talking about when they say they don't like shopping at Walmart!

I live in an overpopulated area and have all kinds of stores.  The closest is Safeway, which I don't mind, but I have started picking some stuff up at Walmart because it's so much cheaper than Safeway.  Safeway was giving me personalized coupons and listing Walmart's prices.  What a difference.  I also get shampoo and OTC meds there and at Target as well.  It depends on what else I need.  I have also recently started shopping at Lucky.   They have 5 for $5.00 in their meat department and enough variety I can get food for the week and some lunches.  You still pay $5 for any over 5 so I just stock up for the week and put some in the freezer.  Unfortunately their produce is substandard so I get that at Safeway.  I shop at Costco for paper good and chocolate!  And I love their $5 rotisserie chicken.   I get stuff at Big Lots but you need to watch expiration dates.  I have a Dollar Store nearby.  I hadn't considered getting groceries there.  I'll have to investigate.   I also go to Whole Foods for Gluten Free Pasta for my son.

We have Food Lion and WalMart.  Sad to say, I generally shop WalMart, but only because I don't have a car.  A neighbor takes me shopping one a month, and that has to take care of everything...food, clothing, household, pet...everything.  It only makes sense to have that one trip be to WalMart.  Need I say, I have an extensive and detailed list of groceries, etc?

I was surprised at the variety the dollar store packs into a few rows. Plus for things like litter I don't have to haul it through the big box stores.

For grocery stores, we have Jewel's (as we say in Chicagoese), Aldi's, Mariano's. Had Dominick's but it closed, most of them are Mariano's now. I mainly go to Jewel (because it's right next door) and Aldi on occasion.

For drug stores, there is Osco (part of Jewel) and CVS. Target pharmacies are CVS now. Osco is closer but I go to CVS. It's not too much farther. And there is Walgreen's too of course.

Mea culpa!  I unintentionally lied by omission, having reached the venerable age of "brain-dead old fart>"  We also have Dollar General, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree, but with my transportation being what it is, I only get to go there if my ride wants something from there.  I don't  feel comfortable asking for extra stops, because he absolutely refuses to allow me to put gas in his car when he was going out anyway.

There are others here but I don't go to them.

We have Costco.  I think they are mainly for larger quantity buying.  Now that it is usually just me and I am back in an apartment so I have limited storage I haven't gone there.

We also have Whole Foods.  Both of them are a bit of a distance and I have to drive through heavy traffic to get to either one.  I went once.  It was okay but I didn't think it was worth the hassle so I haven't went back.

We also have Sam's Club.  I see that as a Walmart with an annual fee so I have never been there.

There are also the small groceries that are either ethnic foods of one type or another or specialty type stores and I have never went to those types of stores.  I avoid them mainly because I think they tend to be overpriced.

They say they're going to open 2 Aldi stores in Sioux Falls this year. I don't know where the second one will be but I go past the location of the first one fairly frequently. They only just now started tearing out the old furnishings, so I don't know how long it will be before they open :/.

What are the grocery stores in your area? Safeway, Stoke's Market, Walmart, Kmart all carry groceries.

Do you shop them or do you shop elsewhere?

We mainly shop at Safeway because they have good deals on Fridays such as on pop, cereal, frozen foods like ice cream or pizza, peanut butter, salsa etc. And sometimes on cakes which are $5.

Not just those but it's what is on the top of my head right now.

We shop at Stokes sometimes, too because they also have good deals but not just on Fridays.

Walmart we shop there but not just for groceries obviously. Kmart we rarely shop there. We have Three Bears Alaska which is like a costco but you don't need a membership.

We rarely shop there but they have the best double chocolate chip muffins and it's really not easy to get to being way the heck out there.
