I have an elderly cat who hasn't been doing well for the past few months. I brought her into the vet today and they told me it was very likely she had liver cancer. She has lost a lot of weight (can feel her bones now), and when I woke up this morning she has lots of discharge in her eyes, specifically her left one. Her left eye still looks very swollen right now, with some discharge coming out of the corner of her eye. Also within the past hour her ear is very red. I am very concerned, any information you can give me would be helpful.

Update: Today her ear is not red anymore, and the discharge in her eyes has cleared up for the most part. She still hasn't eaten or gone to the bathroom in a while, and after drinking a little yesterday and today she threw up after both times.

I am sorry to hear of your problems. It sounds as though her immune system is becoming weak and she is prone to any infections around. Is there any way your vet is going to confirm his possible prognosis of liver cancer? Then at least you would know what you are dealing with. I can only advise you to work closely with your vet and to monitor her carefully for signs of pain and distress, which you are obviously doing. Liver cancer is very painful and cats are good at hiding it. So you will have to be ultra-vigilant to ensure your girl does not suffer needlessly.

Did your vet run any tests? That's the best way to know for sure what you're dealing with. Hope your kitty is ok.

I agree with the two above posters, how did the vet determine it was cancer ? What test were done? many times snap diagnosis are incorrect without running the proper tests. I would also consider a second opinion. I hope she is ok.

Agree regarding the tests, they definitely should be running blood work to find out how everything is doing in your baby. Not sure about the ear and eye symptoms, but not eating could mean hundreds of different things. First thing that comes to my mind is kidney disease,

Actually, I know you said she's losing weight, but is she not eating as much? OR is she eating normally (if not more) and losing weight?

Thinking good thoughts for you and your kitty.
