Hi everyone. I just joined so I'm not completely sure if this is where I should post this. I took my cat to the vet because she was having problems urinating. He took x-rays and thinks she has some grit. He prescribed antibiotics and recommended I switch her food to Hills prescription diet urinary care. I'm just a bit worried because I read some really bad reviews online. So I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or that particular brand of food. Thanks.

Hill's in general gets a bad rap, but I think they have their good qualities. Just my personal opinion. However, I've not had experience with the urinary formula, and I know that issue in general has special dietary needs that I'm not 100% clear on. Ask me about kidney disease, I can help :) But I know there are plenty of folks here with kitties with urinary issues and needed special diets.

The one and only thing I know about these urinary diets is they are not good for kidney cats, but why I don't know.

Yeah that's why I joined. This is my first cat so I don't have much experience.
I'd like to think it's good if the vet recommended it but I'm worried he might choose that one because it's the one sold by them.

I think that is the main reason it's the first one they suggest, but I've learned it's always good to ask about alternatives. My vet knows I'm not the most wealthy person there (even though most of the clientele is well off) so he works with me on this stuff. We've had to learn how to get really creative sometimes.

I hadn't realized how expensive it can be to have a pet. Asking about alternatives is a good idea. I'm going to keep with the treatment for the two weeks he recommended and I'll ask about it during her follow up. Thank you!

Hi Treice I don't know about UTIs but for my cat, Kato, it wasn't until the third day I really saw some improvement. On new years she would stay on her box for about ten minutes & would go often. So I would wait for the medication to start working. I would probably also be worried about the blood. I hope he's doing ok & you were able to reach your vet.

Hi,Oreo has improved, I did get in contact with his vet,she told me because he just started the medicine I may see the blood here and there, so it's normal with the UTI. Oreo has his follow up soon and I can see improvements little but it's going in the right direction, thanks.
