My cat, Chunk, had jaw surgery almost three weeks ago and we have been feeding him through a feeding tube. He seems so lethargic, drooling and showing no interest in food. I was at my vet's office yesterday to pick up more A/D and I questioned how much a day we should be feeding him, I was told One can mixed with water over the course of the day. Which seems a lot to me as we were only feeding him half of that. So my question to all you dedicated cat mommy and daddies who have fed their cats using e-tubes how many mls a feeding can a cat's stomach handle? When I asked the vet two weeks ago he said no more than 35mls a feeding, which seems very low. I am a basket case because my Chunk is slowly disappearing on me. Thank you all in advance for your answers. Brenda

When my kitty had a feeding tube he was also getting the A/D.  The vet had me mixing it half and half with water so it was really thin and I was feeding 60 mls of the mix 4 times a day which would be 30 mls of the food.  One can a day is the usual recommendation.  Does your kitty have fatty liver?  If so it can be a long recovery period and getting enough calories in each day is key to recovery.

Thank you Denice. Chunk had a tumor removed from his lower jaw. It has been a rocky month for us. I am almost giving him a full can a day but his drooling is out of control and of course my vet is on vacation until Monday.
