Hello!
My little kitty cat is on heat and has been now for 5/6 days. She's about 3 years old now and we've noticed this heat cycle is rather different than that of the others. She seems to have been sleeping more, she does her usual calls and rubbing and all of that and she's also become a lot more affectionate. She'd never usually sit on our laps but she does now.

However, the main reason I'm here is due to her excessive licking in her private regions. After a quick google I saw this is normal but then I also noticed when I picked her up she had some discharge that's a white colour and I'm concerned.

We will go to the vets but we were going to see if it cleared up after her heat cycle.

We will be getting her spayed after this cycle too when she's better.

I do have a picture
Please help

Thanks X

My best [not a doctor] guess is Pyometra. It's an infection in the uterus that occurs when a cat goes through multiple heat cycles without getting pregnant. A heat cycle opens the cervix of a cat, allowing a male cat's sperm to get through... this also allows bacteria to get through. This is a very serious condition, and discharge is the first symptom. Please get your cat to the vet immediately.

Read this for more info. http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/pyometra-in-cats/330

"The clinical signs depend on whether or not the cervix remains open. If it is open, pus will drain from the uterus through the vagina to the outside. This discharge may be observed on the skin or hair under the tail, or on bedding and furniture where the cat has lain. In many cases, the fastidious nature of the cat causes her to clean up the discharge before it can be seen. With an open pyometra, fever, lethargy, anorexia, and depression may or may not be present."

ETA: Cats in heat can also have discharge, but the behavioral changes are what makes me think it's more serious.

Goodness me! Well in some ways, the fact that it's still coming out is somewhat a good sign! I'll get her seen tomorrow. I'm not going to wait as even if it seems to stop, it could be happening inside. Looks like either way she'll be getting spayed this week then :(
I can't cope :(

Thanks you for getting your kitty the care she needs! Spaying is really much healthier for kitties. :) Healing vibes to your girl.

If she does have in infection, the vet may give you antibiotics first to take care of the infection and spay her after the infection clears up. It is more difficult to spay a cat in heat, because the uterus and cervix are swollen.

Hey,

Yeah I know and that's what worries me so much :-/
The discharge isn't clear which is what's scaring me but it's not green like some sits have said. I'm going to just give an emergency vet line a ring. She's playing normally, she's been up and about today and she's still going mad for dreamies and she's been eating. Not as much as usual but she never eats much during heat. I think we put spaying off because she's a house cat and wouldn't get kittens anyway and we put it off because I didn't want her to be in pain I know it's stupid. I never knew of other complications like this.

Thank you!
I'll give the vets a call now

Sounds like you have everything under control. Just wanted to let you know for the future that complications like this are common in unspayed cats. In addition, it is very uncomfortable to be in heat. You're making the right choice to have her spayed and she will recover before you know it! Ask for pain medication for three days following the spay and she should be back to normal.

Hello,
So I took my cat in today and she was taken for an emergency operation to treat pyometra:(
The operation was successful! There was a big risk but she's out and Fine and was home after and she's with me now. She's got pain relief and antibiotics and a big cone collar :)
Thank you for your advice and help and also for your time.

She was picked up at 3:30 and she's home now and she's just tried getting the cone off but now she's sat really still on all fours not sleeping just staring into one place. Is that common?

I'm so glad you got her to the vet and she got the treatment she needed.  I was afraid that was the diagnosis when I first read your post.  Hope she recovers well and is back to her normal self soon.

Cheers guys and thanks for all the advice. She's just got up to smell food and looked normal again but she hasn't ate. She had surgery about 1 and I picked her up at 3 and she hasn't had anything else all day.

She's probably in a little bit of pain or discomfort and probably still feeling the effects of the anesthesia and any pain meds they gave her.  Offer her small meals, warmed up a bit to enhance the aroma for the next day or so.
