So my niece and her fiance are having a 90's theme birthday party in a few weeks. It was originally going to be 80's theme, and I was all excited because 80's I know. Aquanet anyone?

Anyway, we have to dress in a 90's theme outfit. So far for my husband I have old, over-sized jeans that I can possibly rip up a bit, a black t-shirt with guitars on it and a flannel plaid shirt to wear over it. For myself I will also wear jeans, a black t-shirt and will tie a flannel shirt around my waist. I did buy a cross yesterday that I will wear on a ribbon as a choker around my neck. I was thinking maybe I could go a little goth and do the heavy black lips and eyeliner? I looked at black wigs yesterday and they are pricey and I don't want to spend a mint.

Any suggestions?

AbbysMom AbbysMom Sometimes the thrift stores have wigs if you wouldn't be nervous to put a used wig on your head. Or a bottle of dye. Go for it.:lol3:

The 90s had a theme? lol. Funny, I grew up half in the 80s and half in the 90s. Definitely preferred the 80s!

There was a particular type of skirt that seemed popular back in the 90s. I'd have to find a picture to show what it was, but sounds like you're going in a direction other than a skirt. Can't go wrong with jeans and a t-shirt, that spans across all the decades. Jeans and band t-shirts are my normal!

Ugh the 90's sucked for clothing.  80's were so much better.

I think you're heading up the right path - but maybe grunge would be better than goth.  Just wear ripped jeans, t-shirt, flannel shirt, crappy ripped up sneakers (Keds type) and add a slouchy beany hat lol.  Stick a fork in ya - done!

Weren't camouflage pants and baseball caps big in the 90s, too? I recall Birkenstocks and Keds being "in", and turtlenecks under sweaters.

The Grunge look, Power Rangers and those stupid M C Hammer crotch down to the knees baggie pants (the hip-hop thing, I guess you'd call it?). You could always find a band-themed t-shirt from the 90's but I have no clue what the bands were then, LOL  I'm an old broad, not my genre for sure!

Of course, you could always go dressed as Bill & Hilary Clinton!

I graduated in '95 so I love the 90's. Big bold patches of color and baggy. The Criss Cross look of backwards clothes was huge.

Platform shoes and plaid skirts!  Baggy jeans, flannels.  Those spaghetti strap dresses with tshirts under them.  Sunflowers.  Overalls with only 1 shoulder hooked.

I wonder if I have any of my high school clothes still...

I just googled "90s teen fashion."
