Rosie was about that age when she was neutered.

On the day i took her for her operation, they did'nt know if they were able to carry out the operation as they thought she was in season. They asked me if she was crying more than normal, or licking down below a lot more?.

Fortunately they were able to do her, but those were the signs i was told to look for.

I know the signs as Ive had females before. I was just wondering if she was 'later' than usual as all my other girls were around 6 months.

Both my girls had their first heats around the age of one year. It might have been a month or two earlier. I've understood that that's a fairly typical age.

The exact time of the first heat is quite variable - genetics (when did the mother cat have her first heat?, health (such as free of parasites, on a good diet etc)& even day length can effect this. think about the seasonable differences in numbers of kittens at the shelters.
If she is acting fine otherwise, dont' worry. No possibility she was spayed very early on?Deb E

Could she have what is called a silent heat (in heat but doesn't call)???? It's rare but they do exist!

I would bring her to the vet and have her checked out - just in case!

Neesey, I would just like to suggest you get her spayed. There are so many kittens in the world as it is-

Just to let you know we now have our Honey spayed

Shes not coped very well with it, but we are nursing her back to health.

The reason we didnt get her speyed before, was we had just had our Jinx speyed, and couldnt afford to get Honey done at the same time. I didnt mention it as I knew Id start a backlash here. I know what people can be like about speying, and I didnt want to be judged.

I understand peoples opinions about cats being spayed. My kittens are 6mos not spayed and the other is a kitten from the Humane Society.

My 6mons old cat didn't go into heat yet. The kitten from the Humane Society is 4mos and the Humane Society won't let you adopt unless they're

spayed. My kittens are and will be inside cats. So it is my choice what to do. That is my opinion and choice.

Please be aware that female cats that are not spayed and are allowed to keep calling are prone to getting a serious and life threating condition called a PYOMETRA.
Most cats that develop this condition will be dead within 48 hours without immediate medical treatment.

This is a thread from 2004 that someone has replied to.  So it's true, but the OP's cat will hopefully have been spayed many years ago.
