I'm just trying to get my options here before I need to get this filled again. I just recently got a refill of a hundred pills but they seem to go soooo fast.

I currently pay $42~ for a hundred 5mg pills for Sara at my vet's office. I see there are many out there that are cheaper - base price - online, but they seem to get you with the shipping charges. Does anyone here get it through a regular brick-and-mortar pharmacy? And if so, how much do you pay? From what I can tell I'm probably getting a better deal just getting it from my vet, but not 100% sure.

I've used Dr Fosters Smith for meds, and here they quote $25 for 100, 5mg and their shipping has always been reasonable if you don't do overnight.  They contact your vet or you have the vet fax a scrip.

Went through the motions of buying it to see what the shipping would be (oh goodness, forgot about the state tax too, geez). That's not too bad, about $10 cheaper. Is it easy to get refills or is it a pain? I work in the pharmacy industry, I know how it works for humans but not at all for pets.

It's been pretty easy for me.  You just need to get the scrip to them or have them contact your vet, but $10 isnt much cheaper, maybe over the long term.  I know someone who's treated their cat with Y/D food, no drugs at all (unpillable cat) and Y/D is specifically for HT cats.

Sara also has early-stage CKD, so exclusively feeding y/d won't really be a good option. Not to mention, with multiple cats, it wasn't a great option to begin with. She would still go eat the other food in additon to hers. I've been feeding her k/d with the hopes of it filling her up more, so she'd at least eat less of the other food. But nope, she's eating as much of the other stuff as she ever did. I'm trying to see it this way - she could use the extra padding. I'm just thankful she's back to being pillable again.

I'll have to think about it though. $10 for convenience of going next door to pick up her meds is a pretty sweet deal.

I had to place an order for something else on Dr Foster and Smith, so decided to order the methimazole as well. Asked for 125 (50 day supply, she takes 1.5 in the morning and 1 at night), and 375 were authorized. So does that mean they'll ship me 375, or only ship me the 125 I requested, and allow the others to remain for "refills"?

That was a lot easier than I was expecting it to be! I don't know why I thought it would be difficult, I am very well aware of how it works with human pharmacies (since I work for one).
