My cat ever since she was a year old has only ever eaten kibble. If we give her any of the wet foods such as Fancy Feast or the Whiskas she'll either lick up the sauce or wont touch it. We've tried blending it all up but then she won't eat it. Is that normal? She's a 10yr old domestic short haired mix breed.

Hi, and welcome to TCS :wavey:

Kibble does seem to have a slightly addictive quality with some cats. It's often to do with the animal digest any brands are coated in. (Digest is meat that's been highly processed to concentrate the flavour, and is used to increase palatability)

It really is better to feed some wet food as well as the dry. Wet food has a higher meat content than dry of the same quality - pretty significant for an obligate carnivore. Also, having evolved as desert creatures, cats have a very low this drive. They're designed to get around 80% of their fluid intake from their food, so if feeding solely dry food you need to take extra measures to boost their fluid intake - they should be drinking around a cup (250mls) of water/fluid a day if on a kibble diet.

She doesn't eat any wet food, I've gone through brand after brand and flavor after flavor but she just doesn't like it.

Yes I think it is normal, but not ideal. A lot of cat are kibble addicts. What if you went the other way and mixed canned food (pate) with warm water to make a soupy mix? If she licks the gravy then you can slowly add less water to it. Very warm water will also bring out the smells. What types of protein did you try? chicken, turkey, rabbit, pork, lamb, etc?

If you want her to eat some wet food (which is the ideal thing at this point because of her age) you're going to have to put in some work. It can take a long time to get kibble addicts to recognize wet food as food. Here are some tips to transition your cat to wet or raw food. Freeze dried foods like Stella and Chewy's or Primal are really enticing to picky cats that hate wet food. I have an older cat that doesn't like wet food either, but he eats raw food with treats on top.

Food issues can be tough and frustrating. I went through many cans of wet food for my picky kitten, we finally landed on Nature's Variety Instinct Rabbit Formula. Both my cats (my oldest is 17 and eats the chicken) eat a 50/50 of wet and dry food. For the dry food they fell in love with "Iandloveandyou" Nude Food Grain Free Poultry, it's made in Colorado with limited ingredients. I have found it's only available on chewy.com .

Good Luck
