We usually stay home, but sometimes we go to a party.  Not sure which we'll do this year.

When our son was dating a girl who lived in Manhattan, he went to visit her over New Year's. She stayed with us over Christmas, then he took her home. They spent New Year's Eve at Time Square. He said it was really interesting with all the people and he had a great time. But it was an experience that he wasn't sure he wanted to repeat. It was nice and he can say that he did it. But that's it.
You know, my friend and I were considering going to Times Square for NYE into 2018, but after hearing that they have lines that you are not allowed to get out of (or something like that) - not even to use the bathroom, uh, no.  If I do go, I'd make sure I have a good view from a hotel room, lol.

Work New Year's Eve, go home and do the usual routine (feed cats, make dinner for myself, play with cats, etc), go to bed at normal time, get up New Year's Day and go to work

First time he heard a firework he was inside and he got a worried look  Then I showed him where they were and he just stared at the same spot waiting for more to come(9 months old).  He LOVES the cats.  Shelby in particular really peaks his interest.  She is very sweet and tiny.  If we are out and I ask "Where is Shelby?" he looks!

When we are at Petsmart I take him to the cat cages.  We had a dog his first few months but even the smallest most well behaved dog makes him freak out unless they lick his feet.  Then he screams the happy scream and happily flails arms.

Usually stay in, stay up until midnight have some special yummy food, drinks and watch some specials on the tely with my momsey.

And then melt some metal over the fireplace, and toss it in a bucket of cold water
we each do that. The shape it turns out and deciphering it determines our future for the upcoming year. Finnish tradition that we do!

And also New Year's Day dinner.

that sounds like a very nice way to 'ring in the new year'! and i really like that Finnish tradition!

Several years ago, Rick and I started staying in on New Year's Eve. I usually make a bunch of appetizers or the "Big Sandwich". Depending on the weather, I'll throw some Louisville Wings on the grill. And then we watch movies, either in bed or both of us flopped on the couch in the living room while we munch.

I put some folded money in an old pocketbook and put it outside on the front porch.

As the ball comes down at about the 10 second mark, Rick and I will kiss until the New Year comes in. And then I go outside bring my pocketbook back into the house.

That way, the first thing I do is kiss the person I love. The second thing I do is bring money into our house. Those traditions will hopefully stay with us throughout the New Year.

We usually go to bed around 2 or 3:00 in the morning on New Year's Day.

(The Big Sandwich is a homemade loaf of circular bread. I bake the bread early in the morning and let it out to cool. Cut in half horizontally, then it's spread with mayo and mustard, stacked with slices of lettuces, tomato, different deli meats and cheeses, then wrapped in foil, and warmed up in the oven, enough so the cheeses melt into each other. Unwrap, slice, and eat. Yum.)
those are really lovely traditions!

i think i remember you mentioning The Big Sandwich last year! it sounds very tasty --

I watch Dick Clark's Rockin New Year's Eve (I know he passed away but they keep the show going!) special and watch the ball drop on tv. I don't go out, too darn cold and crazy! I'd rather stay home curled up watching that show with my pets. :)
very nice plans!

it's gotten cold here just in the past few days; the unseasonably warm weather has gone. i can't imagine being outside in the cold on New Year's Eve, for any amount of time.

Usually I have a party I go to but this year am staying home with Chula and Paul. At midnight I'll have a glass of wine and listen to all the loons shooting off their guns outside.
that sounds like a nice, relaxing New Year's Eve!

ahhh, i'm sure there will be 'loons' shooting off their guns here too on New Year's Eve! i worry more on the holidays that people tend to drink more, and then after drinking go outside and shoot off their guns.

New Year's Eve here is getting the kids to bed. Then the kitty's get catnip and we have a spread of appetizers and wine.
But....... The human kids always get up around 4 am.
Ugh
that sounds so good for New Year's Eve -- catnip for the kitties, and you all enjoying a spread of appetizers and wine!

i was just yesterday thinking that i'd like to have some appetizers. for New Year's Eve, and in general. i believe it was @Kat0121 who had mentioned previously that she likes an assortment of appetizers sometimes for a meal. hmmm.........i think i'll head over to the 'What are you craving?' thread next.

I can count on one hand how many times I've gone 'out' on New Year's Eve. I don't drink, I am not a fan of crowds or loud music and I detest driving when there are lunatics and drunk drivers out in hoards! I am definitely staying home! Snuggling with my Boys on the couch, watching movies, reading my book, and snacking on some cheese, crackers and grapes. I will most likely be up at midnight... it's already 3:00 A.M. here now and I am wide-eyed and bushy-tailed! LOL  I've always been a night owl!

One thing I do every New Year's Eve is that I get out my checkbook and write the new year date on all my checks!  I started doing that a long time ago because I hate having to void a check and rewrite a new one because I wrote the previous year's date on it!

My New Year's Resolution has always been to not keep any. So far, that has worked out perfectly for me! LOL
a nice quiet New Year's Eve with your two boys! very nice!

I don't go out and drink and party anymore. I did all that in my younger days. Now I'm just content to snuggle up with my two old ladies (Muffin and Muffy) and watch TV. We will be asleep by midnight.

It's been years (decades?) since we went out on NYE. There are way too many people who feel the need to play with fireworks for a couple of hours, so hubby goes to bed well before midnight while I try to distract a scared pet.

i think i might feel the same way. it would be an interesting and new experience for me, but the crowd and the noise and etc.........if i spent New Year's Eve in Times Square once, i don't think i'd want to do it again.

on the other hand, i love NYC! just to visit. so much to see and to do there. and there are Zaro's Bread Basket's there too!!!

awww...that's so cute! i wonder why there's a big difference with cats vs dogs. maybe that's common with young children...?

Haven't done anything for the new year for years. Ordinary night.
will be a pretty ordinary night for me and our jaspurr too! though i'll pop on over to the Times Square website and look at New Year's celebrations from around the world on youtube.

poor Mogli! fireworks used to scare my mickey and snick, though when we moved out to 'the sticks' they weren't particularly afraid of fireworks sounds anymore.

i ended up getting to bed by 10 pm last night; i was way too tired to stay up to see in the new year.
