If you can find or borrow a humane trap that is his best option. Do you have a way to make a shelter for him to get out of the elements?

You need a trap ASAP. If there is any store where you can buy one quickly, do it (Co-Op or other farm stores, Harbor Freight has traps too). Contact the local animal rescues, maybe someone has a trap you can borrow. Stuff like this always happens on weekends - Murphy´s law. Anyway, mabye you are lucky. I´d also set up a shelter for the poor guy. Anything that is quick and easy. Maybe a big cardboard box with straw in it. Cover it with a tarp or a piece of plywood for rain protection. Some old carpet, anything that you can find in a rush, you don´t have much time for making something pretty.

And find a trap, that´s most important!

I don´t know how long this takes, but give it a try: http://www.alleycat.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=1452

This is the Feral Friends Database, fill out the form and they´ll email you a list of people in your area that might be able to help.

If you have a trap, set it up on cardboard or styrofoam for insulation from the ground. For bait, tuna or canned cat food works fine. Cover it up with lots of blankets to keep the cat calm and warm. You have to check the trap frequently, you don´t want him to freeze to death. I´d check twice during the night and maybe 3 or 4 times during the day.

Once you trap him, you can take the trap indoors (garage, barn, laundry room) and hold him until Monday morning to see a vet. Dont take him out of the trap!!! Don´t open the trap either! Too dangerous. The vet can anesthesize him through the bars.

Please keep us updated. If you need advice, PM me any time.

Good luck!

He came in the house on his own thank god how ever he is in terrible pain. So he managed to get downstairs and hide he eats a little but not enough. I still can't get near him. But tomorrow I'm going to throw a blanket over him and place him in my carrier and take him to the vet. This cat is a fighter. However I can't afford the long term treatment. So he may have to be euthanized.

Please let us know what happens.  I'm pulling for your feral.  And thank you for being so kind to him.

Missy, try to get a trap and trap him in your house. This is way better than throwing a blanket over an already hurting cat - and safer for you and the vet. Treating a feral cat in a carrier is a nightmare for veterinary staff... the cat is scared  to death, crazy with pain, and will attack when cornered. In a life trap one can anesthesize the cat though the bars, so much safer and less stressful for the cat too.

I´d call your local rescue organisations first thing in the morning and ask them if you can get a trap immediately. Or Animal Control, they have traps for sure, although I don´t know what their policies are, but it doesn´t hurt to ask.

If there is no chance for a trap, try at least to "trap" him in the carrier rather than throwing a blanket. Put food in the carrier and have a string attached to the door so you can pull it from a distance. Or a stick for pushing... might even be better.

But still, a trap would be best.

If you want, check out the FB group "Trap-Neuter-Return Community". This page has thousands of members all over the world, you can ask if there is someone in your area that can help with the trap and possibly vet bill. I am on a budget, but I would like to help paying the vet bill if you pull through with a treatment.

Update on my feral cat Duke. I had to get my niece to come and grab him and put him in the carrier. She is used to dealing with animals. She put a sheet over him and grabbed him on his mane and put him in the carrier. the sheet was still covering him which i think calmed him while we had a 20 minute drive to the vets. I unfortunately had to put him down because he had a broken pelvis. I didn't cry because  he was put down I cried because he was in so much pain for so long. Thank you for all of your support. I really needed it at the time.
