For those of you who have iPads, do you like them? Which one do you have? Does it work OK for you? Do you use it for reading? For game-playing? Online? How many GB do you have? Is it enough for what you do?

I'm considering if I want an iPad and, if I do, which one do I want? I have my desktop computer and we also have a laptop. I don't use the laptop that often; my desktop is on from the time I get home until I go back into work; I never turn it off, unless I'm going to be away from the house during the day. So if I want to get on the computer at any given time, it's just a matter of coming back here and sitting down at my desk. I have my Nook, but I primarily use that for reading. I never go anywhere without my Nook. Ever. I have gotten online with it, but not that often. It's kind of a pain to post online with my Nook, but that's probably because I'm so used to sitting at my desk back here. I may go online with my Droid, but I hardly ever post; that's really different!

Rick has an iPad, though, and he really seems to like his. He says it's easier to keep track of his fantasy football stuff. He keeps it on the piano in the living room and says it's very convenient for him that way. I have never really used his iPad, other than when he first got it (he got it from his union at a convention back during the summer). I asked him if his iPad was fast enough for him when he got online and he thinks it's fine.

Anything you like about your iPad? Anything you don't like?

Thank you!

LOVE my Ipad! LOVE.

It's good for playing games and it's good for surfing the internet. I used it to browse TCS all the time. It's OK for simple Mod functions, but if I have to do editing, etc, I prefer the desktop. It IS good for fantasy football. :lol3:

I have an older version, an IPad 2. I've had it four years now and it's slowing down and having a few glitches. I would absolutely get another when this one dies.

Aaron bought himself an older refurbished IPad 2 in August and also loves it.

I have a small iPad.  It's the perfect size for traveling--I can take photos with it, surf the web, email home.

At home, I use it a lot for reading at night--it's got a better light than my bedside lamp.

Love my iPad! It's great for my Netflix and Amazon Prime movies, surfing the web and social media. I have a five year old and I have his games on it too.

Thank you. I'm considering getting one, and am trying to figure out if I'd really use it.

I've had an iPad 2 for a few months.  I inherited it.  I wiped it clean and re-installed the software and it's like new.  It has turned out to be more useful than I thought.  It's great for showing pictures and videos to those without computers, which includes an aged relative.  I also download pictures of items she is shopping for and show them to her.  It's much easier to carry than a laptop, though my laptop is kaput anyway.

Also I keep it near my bed.  If there is anything like weather, traffic or sports scores that I have forgotten to check, I can do it quickly before bedtime on the iPad. I have Wi-Fi only and it is  quick enough.  I can't type very fast on the pop-up keyboard.  When I want to do some serious surfing, I like the desktop.

I can surf outside by the fire pit, or take a good picture of something to show to the guy at the parts store.  You can do this stuff on a smart phone, but the iPad is so much better.

I like the News app that came with it.  You can choose from many news sources and tailor it to your tastes.  I have a Kindle, so I don't read books on this iPad.  I'm thinking of downloading some games for the kitties.  WARNING - make sure you have a good screen protector if your kitties are going to be playing games on your iPad!

I'll probably find more uses.  I'm very please I have it.

Not an iPad, but I have a tablet. I told my mom that tablets are just large smartphones :D. I use the tablet or phone for just about everything---I haven't even turned on the laptop for a long time now. My brother has an iPad. . .I don't think Apple products are worth the extra price but some people do.

No I have a gen 4 iPod touch which is already obsolete, but the camera is awesome and I love Angry birds . I can check my email at work on it sometimes when I have time which I like. I would LOVE to have an iPad or a new iPod but they are so very expensive. I do NOT want a Smart phone In like my old style flipphone. It stays turned off til I am ready to use, it never pocket dials anyone.

OK....I have it narrowed down, I think.

An iPad Air 2 with 64 GB. Space Grey, I think it's called. Best Buy has them on sale with a 6-month subscription to Kaspkersky for protection. It's the cheapest I've seen it anywhere so far....I checked Staples and Amazon, too. Amazon is the most expensive, followed by Staples, followed by Best Buy. I can probably get it at Staples for the same price as Best Buy is selling.

I'm not going to use it for music or for movies. Might throw some books on there, but I do have my Nook for reading. Probably use it for surfing and some games.

Which leads me to my next question: What are you using for protection? Anything?

Thank you all so much for your advice!

We bought our Ipads from Bet Buy and have no protection on them and have had no issues. I will usually open suspect links on my Ipad before I will do it on my desktop.

Thanks, Karen. Best Buy seems to be my best bet.

Hey, just seeing this thread, so chiming in. I honestly wouldn't bother with any protection. I run all the IT for my company, so I fix and maintain all of our computers, cell phones, and tablets. We run all Macs and not one has gotten a virus in 8 years we've been using them. Hackers don't really make viruses for Apple computers, since Apple only makes up about 10% of the personal computer market. Hackers write viruses to make money, so they generally go with the operating system that makes up 90% of computers. I have a Macbook Pro, iPad, and iPhone, and run 0 virus protection and wouldn't worry about it personally.

I have the 64 gig iPad (which is really 56 gig after the main operating system is installed) ... I've used 3 gig of space. I use it for watching Netflix & Hulu, email, Facebook, and reading occasionally. Mainly I just surf the web on it. It's much more convenient than grabbing my laptop, and I can throw it into my carry on when traveling. Unless you're storing a ton of movies, music, and books on it.... you don't need a ton of space. If you store a bunch of music and movies on it, go with the 64gb because those do take up a lot of room.

Not only do I not have an iPad, I have only the vaguest grip of what one actually is, and what all it can do.

THUD

That loud thud was my elder son fainting on the floor in whatever part of the world he is in, traveling in his job at Microsoft, designing hardware and writing code.   I think I just embarrassed him.

Bless his techie heart: he will get over it. Lol
I have a gen4 touch iPod I bought a few years back 32 gig and already most of my games do not work. most are iOS 9 now I am updated to 6.1 far as that will go

Your son would really be embarrassed if he saw my phone. I said I will never buy another wireless, went down to my husbands garage pulled out a rotary dial Bakelite black desk phone that was removed from some hotel many moons ago. Came back to the house, plugged that bad mother up and thunder, lightning, whatever has not destroyed this one yet. I rest my case, things are NOT made to last like they used to. Then again your son may think I have a new invention cause he probably never encountered a rotary dial.

Years back after the cable co. Quit using the boxes that hooked to the tv, my old tv was working really well but the box went out, cable company had none dang if I was going to run out and buy a new tv hubby found another cable box at yard sale for $5 .00 . Bless him
TV worked at least 6 more years. I refuse to conform just to have the newest thing that came out. Long as it functions well is my motto. If it ain't broke don't fix it

I have one, a second-generation. I like it, but not enough to spend money to get a newer model. If I were to do it over again, I would probably get a cheaper-model tablet. Although, current iPad models are less expensive than what I paid for the 2nd generation one. I primarily use it to play games, read comic books and books with a lot of tables/maps, let my cats play the Game for Cats, and call my phone on FaceTime when I lost my phone and my husband isn't on IM to call me. I SOMETIMES use it for other things like watching videos in bed and using websites that work better for touch, but I probably don't use it enough to justify the cost. So my overall review is tablet - thumbs up, most high end tablet on the market - unecessary unless it's your primary means of using the internet and working.

Well, I am the owner of an iPad Air 2. In Space Grey. 64 GB.

Or I will be when it comes in....Staples had to order it. There weren't any 64 GB iPads in stock. They did price-match Best Buy's price, along with the 6-month Kaspersky, so I ended up getting it from Staples for less than Staples' original sale price, even including the tax. They think it will come in Monday and they'll give me a call.

I'm kind of excited about it. The only Apple anything I've ever had is my iPod. (Although I'm thinking that my next phone will be an iPhone.)

O I would be excited too . I would love to have one just cannot afford one right now. I bought my gen 4 iPod touch at Walmart late one night after work and had a friend at work who coached me thru' everything.
Later I ordered a computer thru' Walmart.com really high end $3,00.but it has to be assembled and it would not even start. I paid a tech expert to come to my home and check it out for me had used her before to update my Gateway and add anothr hard drive. She could find nothing I did wrong so we took it back to Walmart. We went thru hours of an asst mgr on a phone trying to figure out how to handle it as they had NEVER dealt with this . After which he advised me to go to Best Buy and get an iMac. If I am getting an Apple product I will go the Apple store and off we went. Have had a beautiful 27" iMac all in one since and still do not know what I am doing. Photos are my best thing on thereI just hate I cannot do all the things I could with Microsoft picture it and Publish It software. Everything I have learned I teach myself I did go to a few one on one classes but hauling that thing in every class was a bit much.
Have fun with your new iPad, you will really enjoy it. Also the cameras on them are awesome

Thank you.  Me too.  I got rid of my old tv before it conked out, but only because I now live alone and the darned thing weighed 50 pounds, which meant I had to go scour the neighborhood for a stray teenager if I wanted to move it for any reason at all.  Better for me to have one that I can lift and shift myself.  But for the rest...My stereo/cd player is down from 5 changers to only 3 working, but the radio is terrific, so I'll hang on to it for a bit longer.  My phone is and old, old cordless that I've had for...well...since cordless phones first came out.  Ugly and clunky, but that sucker works like a charm!  My cell phone...erm...I do have still a flip phone.  I now use it as an alarm clock, and I have a little old Kyocera that does nothing but talk and text, but it does those things very well, indeed.  If I want to take pictures, I'll buy a new camera!  And I do, actually.  It's on the "save pennies for it" list.
