I have a 5 month old kitten who is normally eating me out of house and home. He didn't eat his dinner last night and has eaten anything today. I called the vet and they said to try chicken and warm milk. He drank a little milk but didn't touch the chicken. They said to call back in a few hours if nothing changes. Anyone else have experience with anything like this?

It's possible he's just having tummy troubles. What do you normally feed him? Has he vomited at all? How did you prepare the chicken? The best way to do so is to just boil it in plain water (not broth). Have you tried any other cat foods by chance, or changed his food recently?

Unfortunately, my personal experience with cats not eating has mainly been with old cats and for reasons that most likely wouldn't be what your kitten has.

For a younger kitten, there's so many reasons why they may suddenly go anorexic:   worms/parasites, URI's, intestinal blockage, or just a plain old upset tummy.....

Have you noticed any vomiting or diarrhea?

If I were you, I'd go grab a couple things before the grocery stores close:  grab some chicken or turkey baby food (make sure the baby food doesn't contain onion or garlic powder ingredients) and see if you can find some KMR in the pet aisle (kitten milk replacement) - I think that would be better than milk, since the lactose in milk can further upset their stomach........  cats usually find baby food irresistible.   You could also grab a couple cans of Fancy Feast classic chicken.   Make sure to get the "classic" Fancy Feast, not the chunky varieties.  Most cats love this flavor of Fancy Feast and will eat it right up.   Those are the best ideas I've got to try & persuade a cat to eat.   At least the KMR should help keep the kitty hydrated, which is super important.   If none of this helps, you'll likely need to go into the vet for tests.   Why does it seem like they always get sick on a holiday?  I'm sorry you're having to deal with this today - I hope your cat starts eating again on his own very soon!

Unfortunately the only place that is still open around here is giant eagle. They don't have KMR. I bought the baby food and he won't touch that either. He threw up once about 30 minutes after he drank the milk. He has peed once but no bowel movements. Other than not eating he is acting completely normal. Full of kitten energy running all around my house and making it impossible to wrap presents. I called the vet again and they said they said it's up to me "it could be nothing or it could be something" and that I could keep an eye on him for now and take him in later. I don't want to jump the gun and it end up being nothing but at the same time I want to do something.

His food hasn't changed. He gets fancy feast canned food (all flavors) 1 can a day split into two feedings and I free feed dry kitten food.

Call the vet back!  You can get goat's milk to use.  It's usually in the baking section, I think.

Are you giving cow's milk? Many cats can't digest that so may be adding to the problem.

If your cat goes outside, he might have fleas which leads to tapeworms and other parasites, which allows him not to eat as much as he usually does.If your cat does go outside, I recommend you getting him a treatment of paradyne once a month, which is a flea preventative for at least 6 months so all fleas/ticks and larvae have died from your cats body.Your cat can possibly just have a stomach ache or fever/cold. Try giving him treats, and see if he eats those. If this routine is still going on, take him to the vet, if it is something more serious (hopefully not).

Hope this helps :)
