Hello,

I have a 7 month old male cat, named Jet. He is a domestic shorthair and is in great health. I got him back in June of this year, and I havent had this problem since. Starting about 1 week ago, I believe Jet is leaving a "smell" or some sort. I havent seen him leaving any smell/ liquid, but it doesn't really smell like urine. He goes outside in my fenced backyard, and he hangs out with our neighbor's male cat .They don't fight, and they are friends. I smelled the arm of my jacket today, which was left on my bed eariler, and had the same smell. Earlier this week, I picked him up, a liquid was on my hand. I wiped it off fast, not seeing the color, but it had the same smell. He isn't neutered, as I am planning to this week.... Is he okay? How do I remove the smell? What is this?

Thank you

Cats that aren't neutered will have very pungent urine when they become sexually mature.  They will also often begin marking their territory with urine.

The smell is very difficult to get rid of..  There are enzyme cleaners, one called Natures Miracle that may help  You need to soak the area with it and let it dry on it's on  There is also a carbon dioxide cleaner called Fizzion that is supposed to be good.  The Fizzion is harder to find but can be ordered online.

It could also be anal gland secretions. The vet can express the glands for you and check them to make sure they're not infected or impacted.

sometimes my guy has anal secretions when he hasn't gone poop for a while, it is a very smelly (like super awful) and oily secretion. It is a fishy poopy like smell.

He's either spraying or its his anal glands, and my money is on spraying.  If he is in fact spraying, there's a relatively good chance he'll stop once neutered.

Please bear with me with this because this post is very long…

Today Jet did something really outrageous. I bought a pair of shoes last month, and I had the shoebox in my closet because I didn’t know if I liked them/ wanted to return them. Jet sits there and sleeps, even though he has a cat condo and cat bed. I put the box on my bed and he sleeps there and just sits there. This has been going on for 3 weeks.

Today, I was on my computer on my bed and Jet jumped up and sat on the box. No problem, until he urinated a ton. He jumped off the bed and left the room. It was gross, and my room smells terrible. I threw out the box as fast as I could (it's cardboard by the way) and told me mom. She said it may be because he is so comfortable with it he just decided to use the bathroom. But the thing is that he always goes in his litter box. He pees outside because he chills in my backyard sometimes but that’s it. In fact, after this happened he went to use his litterbox. He is getting neutered in 2 days, but I was pretty freaked out about this. Is there a way I can prevent this from happening until Monday? Why is he doing this?

Thank you, any answers are appreciated.
