Misty just had one kitten. She picked my sock drawer to have it in.she seems to be done with the labor process. She's eating and walking around. I wasnt around when she gave birth. I wasnt even 100 percent sure she was pregnant. Is it normal for there to be absolutely no mess where she gave birth? I dont know if cat births are anything like humans but I was expecting there to be a huge mess and surprised/worried that there isnt. And she only had one kitten. Definitely wasn't expecting that. Is that normal? I thought cats had between 3 to 5 in a litter.

They try to eat up as much as they can, definitely the mothercake.   Also, its not impossible she delivered somewhere else, and moved soon after.  Go look around and see!

Its not that unusual they have just one kitten.  If you are fairly sure she has more, she will deliver them later. Pauses on several hours or even days arent unusual.

If she is OK, no troubles, happy with her kitten, you observe, but can await and see.  No need to panic - EVEN if you are  sure there are more.

But if you notice there are problems, or especially active resultatless labor, you must contact your vet.

Yes, cats clean up after themselves quite a bit. Litter sizes vary; 3-5 may be average but one is totally normal. She may also deliver more in a few days if she still looks pregnant.

Is the kitten strong? Is she caring for it?

Please be careful not to let her outside until the kitten is weaned and mom is spayed. She can get pregnant again within a week or so.

What's the longest period of time that can pass between deliveries? So far, she's staying close to her kitten. Shes feeding and cleaning and being a good momma! She doesn't look as big anymore so im thinking that may be it but definitely keeping my eye on her.

It can be days. As long as she's not in distress you don't need to worry.

I know you asked this years ago, but I figured I'd give my thoughts and experiences anyways lol. One kitten in a litter is perfectly fine and normal. My cat Star was a singleton (my previous cat, her momma Autumn, only had Star). Star also eventually got pregnant and only had 1 kitten too. Star is now almost 12 years old, and as healthy as can be (She'll be 12 on May 1st). I wouldn't worry, as long as momma and kitten are healthy there's nothing to worry about.

I’m having the same issue and my cats name is Misty too! She gave birth to one kitten at 8pm last night (it’s now 3pm) and she hasn’t had anymore since. Both her and the kitten are happy and healthy. The thing is she doesn’t really look pregnant anymore so is this normal? Thanks

As the other posters said, yes, it's perfectly normal. Just monitor her to see if she goes into labor again, because it's possible for there to be a long break, but it's also totally possible that she's done.
