My cat Max (who has no behavioral issues) started to pee (large and small puddles) of pee everywhere yesterday.

We immediately took him to an emerg vet who took a urine sample and said that the cells were normal - his pee doesn't indicate anything is wrong with him.

She said her best guess is that he's having some behavioral issue - but it really can't be that. His mood is happy as usual, he seems to have trouble stopping himself from peeing as he walks even.

His bowel movements are mostly small pebbles right now.

She ruled out crystals, or UTIs.

Max is only 6 years old and in really awesome health otherwise. I have garbage bags all over the furniture right now, and I feel so bad for him. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Is he peeing more often than usual? Or is it the regular amount just in different places? I honestly don't know but if it does continue for more than 2 days I'd say get his blood checked. Also, is he neutured?

I also suggest blood check to be done to determine if there's any underlying medical issue. I'm surprised the emergency vet only did a urine test instead of a whole work up with labs. A urine test only tells what's happening with the urine. Ask the vet to include a fructosamine test. That's the test for diabetes. Excessive urinating can indicate diabetes. 6 years old is a typical age for diabetes to develop.

I hope not...

We had to go back to emergency last night. To a different one this time. He started to pee blood.

They suspect a UTI, and that there was some 'cloudiness' in his xray at the kidney level... I'm keeping an eye on him. He's got pain killers and antibiotics and he keeps trying to pee in the litter box about every 15 seconds.

Also they put him on special new soft food. They expect that he will get a lot better in a couple of days - fingers crossed.

I really hope that it was an infection and that it's not diabetes...although we are waiting on results for a more in depth blood and urine analysis.

I'll keep you posted - thanks for commenting. I appreciate it, and so does Max!
