Hi guys! Looking for some help for my sisters cat. We got him from the SPCA when he was about 4 months, and don't know any of his history before he got there. He's barely 1 and looks like he's possibly having stomach issues. She woke up this morning with diarrhoea across the house.. (including all over himself) He was at the vet about 2 weeks ago and they didn't seem to be concerned, although she was told to put him on a diet. They also did a stomach x-ray and said there might be something in his stomach but they were going to wait and see if it passed.. My first thought is a blockage from whatever he swallowed, and we have him separated from my cat for the day so we can keep a closer eye on his bowel movements. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Anything is appreciated!

I believe he's eating Orijen food, 1/4 cup twice a day for his new diet. He's also extremely vocal, not sure if that's related or just personality. OH. He's also obsessed with chewing on cardboard (literally will shred a cardboard box and eat it) and I've caught him eating the litter out of the bag a few times. He'll eat anything including the pile of dirt when you're sweeping.. Not sure if this is normal since my cat won't touch anything but his own food!  Please help! Xo

It sounds like your sister's cat suffers from pica, which is eating non-edible objects. There are several reasons cats get pica, including genetic, dietary insufficiencies and boredom. One of the symptoms of pica is disarrea and one of the results is blockage in the digestive organs. It looks like your sister's cat might have both.

I would take the cat back to the vet and have that blockage checked out again and have the diarrhea treated. Also be sure to describe the kitty's eating habits.

Please let us know how he does.

Thanks @Margd! Usually he eats great - my other sister (I have a lot of them haha) said that she noticed he hadn't touched his food a few days ago, but besides that everything seems to be fine. If you pull out treats he will literally climb you and knock it out of your hand. He's extremely obsessed with eating.. the more I think about it, he chews every cord in sight. We have to hide them for him not the chew through them. Also a week or so ago my cat threw up after he ate some of my plant (typical cat) and he started eating my cats puke.. Definitely not normal. I will look into pica some more - if you have any tips or tricks to share on how to fix/manage it - please do share! Thanks!!

I really don't know much about pica - it's something I've read about but never had a cat who suffered from it. Hopefully someone else with actual experience will come along.

I think the first step would be to figure out what form of pica the cat has (assuming that's what it is). And the first step to that would be to have a vet evaluate the kitty for any underlying medical issues.

Good luck![emoji]128077[/emoji]
