Someone or all have been high/ high normal this past year since his UTI. He has only 5 Teeth left from Reobsoeption. He is 8. Acts fine eats fine and uses the l b regularly. Pees every 12 hrs 4-5 oz. no vomitting or diarrhea.
My Vet said it may be kidney decline but he is not worried yet. Should I ask for another test or wait and see.

When my cat's calcium was elevated, they ran an additional test for iodized calcium, which can be more of a true indicator of hypercalcemia (elevated calcium) and possible related illnesses. 13.3 is pretty high and hypercalcemia in of itself can cause issues, which is why sometimes they like to confirm if it's true hypercalcemia with further tests. I can see why you're vet might suspect kidney disease, but the thing that gets me is the ALT, which is related to the liver and "increases can be indicative of liver cell damage," according to this helpful document:  http://www.animalmedicalcenterofchicago.com/pdf/understand-diagnostic-test.pdf

My vet did not mention this test . He is a very fractious cat and his stress level is through the roof at the vet. He has been on Prozac for 6 years because of his stress level which can also affect kidneys. He was a stray that showed up 7 years ago and is in door only for the last6 years, I do not like to question the Bet s expertise but do you think I should push for this test? I read about another test for the SMDA bio market. Know anything about it?

Perhaps he did not suggest this test because Psycho shows no clinical signs of it. No nausea , vomitting , or diarrhea . He eats good and eliminates good as well. His pee has a strong odor and is not dilute. I hate to think my Vet is slack for not suggesting this test.

The high potassium concerns me also.

SDMA is a fairly new test that came out in July of this year. It is used as an early indicator of kidney disease, since it typically does not become evident on typical blood values (like Creatinine) until the kitty has already lost 2/3-3/4 of their kidney function.

Psycho's last blood test showed elevated calcium, alt , which has been above normal since last year - 158 last year 105 June and 121 Dec. , potassium, alb and TP.
He acts great playing, eating well , using the litter box like clock work peeing every 12 hrs same amount about 5 oz and poop everyday to every other day. My vet is not concerned. My question is has anyone experienced questionable blood work in an other wise healthy normal cat. On a side note, he is very scared and is at a very high stress level when he visits the vet. He is 8 years d.

Hmm. Diet sounds good to me. I'm definitely not an expert in this area, but how's his water intake?

He has a fountain and I see him drink several times a day. The vet says it could be dehydration or he could be starting renal insufficiency. He is a stress ball and has been on Przac for 6 years. We tried to take him off but he wound up with a UTI. So I medicate and he s happy. I guess I should be glad he feels good and not worry about it but I wish I knew why. That s my nature and probably not one of my better traits [emoji]128533[/emoji]

I think you're right to be concerned, I would be if it was my cat too. You might try cutting back his kibble a small amount and trying to increase his wet food to help with more hydration. It's good that he's not exhibiting any negative symptoms and that he's happy

I will try cutting back the kibble. Even though it is good kibble it s still kibble and I know not great for kitties. I have recently added digestive enzymes with probiotic, Uniquinol and Omega 3. He seems like he has more energy . I thought maybe these would help. My vet says treat the cat not the numbers and approved these additives. We go in June for his 6 month wellness.
I posted this in hopes other members have had a similar experience and could tell me what there outcome was. I appreciate all suggestions. Go Panthers! I mfrom NC

Thank for all the info on IHC. From research it seems some cats are predisposed to this and should not eat kibble. I am now going to wean him off kibble over the next several weeks to an all wet diet. We have blood work again in June so we will see if this help.
I love this site! Thank you. Now I need a plan of action for the weaning.

By any chance, did the blood work include SDMA? This is a good indicator of early renal issues, although it's very new (came out in July) so some vets are hesitant to even consider it, or take readings with a grain of salt.

I'm guessing creatinine and BUN are normal? Since those were not mentioned.

Yes creative and bun normal. He did not mention SMDA . I have been given links on this site for idiopathic hypercal and some vets think it is tied to dry food. I have been wanting to transition him to all wet but it s hard to feed enough calories with wet alone. I feed Acana and Orijen 1/4 c a day which is good quality but Lisa Pierson say no dry food is good. His vet said we will retest in June . I will ask about that test then.

They may not have tested for SDMA. I don't think all places do it automatically. The lab my vet uses does check it automatically as part of the regular panel.

I have the same problem with my cat getting enough calories. My Sara (who has CKD) even gets dry still for the sheer fact she just doesn't eat enough wet. I put a little bit of kibble in her wet food to supplement. I have to, no choice. Can't afford having her lose weight. She only recent got up to 7 lbs and want it to stay that way.
