My cat Dave has a goopy eye that I feel might be an allergy. It's not too bad, his eye is just squinted a little and has some discharge from the corner. I cleaned it today and noticed there is some redness to that corner.

Are there any eye drops for cats that can help with this?

I'm also trying to figure out if it's an allergy, what it could be. He is raw fed and has been so for a long time now, so I don't know if chicken would be a factor or not.

Welcome to TCS! I would avoid any drops without the advice of a vet. There are some eyedrops made for humans that can be used on cats but most cannot. Only a vet is qualified to make that determination. It would help if you could post a picture of the affected eye so we can better gauge how serious it is. When you say "red goopy eye" I'm picturing something far more serious than what you describe.

I should add: I'm assuming you're in the US? It's actually harder to find human eyedrops that are safe for cats in the US because almost all of the ones sold over the counter are formulated for allergy relief using chemical compounds that are unsafe for cats. A basic eyedrop is usually okay. I live abroad and it's easier to find that where I am, in my experience. In fact there are many prescriptions my vet writes that I need to pick up from the human pharmacy, but I am careful never to administer something myself (even as simple as an eyedrop) without consulting a vet first.

One thing you can do which is totally safe is get some simple saline solution and clean cotton. Soak the cotton ball / pad with the saline and very gently wipe at the corners of the eyes. Make sure you turn the cotton so a clean portion is used on each and every wipe. If this is conjunctivitis in an early stage that may help without the need for medicated eyedrops.

Hope that helps!
