I was wondering what some of your thoughts are on what may be wrong with my cat. She's around 2 years old and I adopted her a year ago.  She's a lively, fun and playful kitty.

She's always been a puker, but her pukes started to become darker, at times very dark brown.  We thought it might just be because her fur is black and she sheds a lot, maybe it's the colour of her hairballs.  About a month ago, she wouldn't come to eat her breakfast which is she has never done, and wouldn't come out of her space.  I took her to the vet and they did blood work.  They said her white cells were elevated.  They ruled out FIV and FELV.  They said she is fighting something, but they don't know what could be causing it.  They thought that maybe she has IBD.  They put her on antibiotics and were going to do 30 days (about 3 weeks in now)   She is puking less, but still puking, but now it is clear.

Since starting the antibiotic, she barely touches her wet food which used to be the holy grail.  She will only eat dry kibble.

Does anyone perhaps have any thoughts as to what might be going on?  I'm worried. thanks.

I'm so sorry your kitty is sick!  What have you fed her?  Have you caught her eating bugs or spiders?  Do you spray for bugs? Does she go outside at all?

If she eats a variety of foods (before when she was eating wet food) did you notice her vomit after a certain variety or type of meat?

Sorry for so many questions.

I agree about the side effects of some antibiotics. My guy is a hoover and will eat anything, but when he was on Clavamox he refused to eat. My vet made me stop giving it to him

She regularly ate a 5 oz can of food (1/2 in am, and 1/2 in pm (weruva my BFF brand), and about 1/8 cup of kibble later on in the evening (mix of Royal canin "calm" from vet, and grain free premium from Pet Valu).

Funny thing is she never pukes after meals, it is always a few hours after eating meals or overnight.  One thing the vet suggested is that some cats get bile build up in their guts if they haven't eaten in a while, so to make more food available for them.  I may experiment with free feeding her so she can eat when she needs to.  The challenge is that one of my cats, a male and former farm cat, is a hoover vacuum.  If I leave any food out he is on it.

I don't spray for bugs nor have I seen her eat anything.  She is not allowed to roam free but can go outside on an elevated deck in an enclosure.  There are birds and squirrels around.

So she throws up while she's eating, and then goes and eats again?  But once she's finished no more throwing up till the next meal?  Hmmm...Interesting.  I don't know what to think about that though.  I suppose the vet's explanation is sensible.  Is there any way he can verify this?  Is she just a nervous eater?  I recall a starving stray kitty to whom I fed her first good meal in over a week (per the people who found her).  She gobbled it down so fast she puked it right back up.  But every single meal your kitty is like this?  it's not like she goes more than 12 hours or so without food, so how does bile build up?

Does she eat really fast, and is she throwing up her food? Does she eat it again (sorry if that's gross but they do that sometimes).

I have a dog that eats so fast that we literally had to feed her tiny amounts at a time. Otherwise, she'd eat it so fast she'd puke, eat that, and repeat the cycle a couple of times before it stayed down finally. It's almost like she thinks it's going to disappear if she doesn't eat it as soon as possible.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my post.  She throws up in between meals, not during, or she'll throw up overnight.  it's usually liquidy.
