There has been a sweet young girl cat looks no more than 6 months old who has been trying to get in to my house when I've been in most days over the past 2 weeks. She's not there continuously but I'm surprised at how often she seems to try to get in to my house. She doesn't look unhealthy but this evening she was outside my door miawing so loud I gave in and gave her some milk and a little tuna. She followed my in and was friendly bruising up to me and purring. She has no collar. I don't want to steal someone else's pet but I'd be happy to take her in if she is homeless. The trouble is the area I live in is not one where most people give animals the care they deserve eg most of the male cats are unneutered and so I doubt many are microchipped. Hence if there is no microchip I still can't be sure she doesn't have an owner. Anyone have any advice about what I should do?

Several members have gotten break away collars for strays and attached notes asking any owner to please contact them. Some also put up signs (without a picture) asking if anyone has lost a cat - callers have to give identifying info to confirm they are the owners.

If you don't hear anything, you can adopt her with a clean conscience. It's wonderful you are willing to take her in - she sounds like a real sweetie. If you do adopt her, be sure to isolate her from any other pets until she gets a clean bill of health from the vet. And please get her spayed - there are low cost clinics in many areas.

For feeding, try to stay away from cow's milk. Many cats can't handle it and will develop digestive upsets.

Thank you for watching out for this little girl! [emoji]128077[/emoji]

You can also post a found notice on craigslist or your neighborhood Facebook page (if there is one) using the same methods described above for signs.
