So some of you know about Obi's  hairball issues, which are pretty well resolved, YEAH!  but now Mitts is throwing up hairballs about once a week, big ones (she is a longer haired cat).  I give  her the same supplements Obi gets; Psyllium once a day, egg yolk lecithin twice a day, and a probiotic.  (Obi also gets 5 mg pred.  Mittens does not).  I plan to call the vet this week but are there suggestions out there?  Both are on Nature's Variety limited ingredients, turkey, salmon or rabbit formulas.  When I gave Obi Vets Best Hairball remedy, he threw it up, have not given that to Mittens; and I am hesitant about the petroleum products.  Has anyone, for example, had luck with fish oil?  or anything else?

How much egg yolk lechthin are you giving?  1/2 capsule twice a day?  You could up the dose perhaps.  I've know people to give as much s 1 1/2 capsules per day during high hairball season.

One of my cats will sometimes vomit after the Vet's Best Hairball Remedy, but only sometimes.  Lately that hasn't happened, so i figure it's something in HER system that needs out.  You might try it with Mittens and see what happens.  If she throws it up, then you'll know, but I wouldn't expect that to happen.

ummmm, Mrs. Greenjeans, they each get 1 capsule twice a day.  So this is more than you indicated.  Unless there is something I dont know about EYL, there seems to be no problem in them getting this much.  I dont know if brand makes a diff but I have given both brands offered by Swanson, because Swanson was out of their own brand for a while.   Mittens' cholesterol is a bit high, so now that you mention it, I should probably discuss the EYL too with the vet.

My cat is a semi long hair, and to prevent hairballs and other complications, I give him a good brushing at least every few days. When I first got him, cat hair was EVERYWHERE, and as a tuxedo, neither dark nor light clothes were safe. Upon bringing the brush home and approaching him, he thought it was a toy and wouldn't let it near him without all paws and teeth open to play, so I let him get hungry, then used a treat with the chemical CHOLINE CHLORIDE (Pounce is full of this, it acts as a sedative, like heroin, and this is why cats go ape for it when you shake the bag). As soon as he heard the bag he goes crazy, and I slowly gave him a piece at a time while brushing his fur. After about a week, he associated the brush with grooming, and now he sees the brush and falls over on his side to get brushed, purring the whole while, and only play biting after about ten minutes (he's less than a year and has a lot of kitten left). This cuts down on stray hairs, which neither get swallowed, nor do they wind up on my clothes. I hope this helps.
