Robin's right eye has been runny with a clear liquid for several days. If I don't remove it, there will be clear (but with typical reddish tint) "tears" all the way to the bottom of his nose!!

I put baby saline drops in his nose, lubricating eye drops in the affected eye, helps for several hours, then as soon as he eats, it gets runny again.

No discharge from his nose, he seems healthy. He always has had "eye boogers"; vet suspects mild herpes. Is this something I should take him to the vet for? He's due in January anyway, it's just I'm going on vacation shortly and am a little worried about him. His regular cat sitter knows him well, but should I even go? Might this be allergies?

Hi

Cat allergies rarely if every present in the eyes, instead allergies in cats show up in their skin and digestive tract as a rule.  It does sound like a mild flare up of a URI like herpes, and their is an anti-viral eye cream that might be able to help.  Idoxuridine is the best and only antiviral (anti-herpes) eye medication on the market, and its used in cats.  http://www.diamondbackdrugs.com/idoxuridine-for-cats/
