Good morning.

Today's question is Do you paint your nails? What colours? Do you do them yourself or get a professional manicure done?

I've never had a manicure done for me, but I paint my own nails when I'm in the mood. I usually go for blues, purples or greens but at the moment they are fire engine red. Just needed something bright and cheerful at this time of year. Oh, and I love those little sparkly stickers you can put on over your nail varnish. I've got some silver and gold snow flake stickers that I'm saving for Christmas.

Anyone else into painting their nails?

I paint my own nails occasionally - mostly muted tones. Don't seem to bother so much since Asha moved in...she hates the smell, and it's much harder to paint nails with a cat permanently on your lap  :lol3:

Nail polish is my guilty pleasure! I do my own manicures, usually on Sunday nights and I love wearing nail polish. I don't wear a lot of make-up or anything like that, but I do love to wear polish. Blues, greens, glitters, you name it, I have it. And I love all the Christmas colors as well as other holiday colors. Love China Glaze, love Opi, I love them all. One of my GFs also has a nail fetish and as soon as we find a really neat color, we go into work and gush over the new color.

I've had one professional manicure in my life. That was when our son got married. I never bothered to have another one; I don't know....it seems like such a waste of money to me. My manicure is never perfect, never. There are always a few smudges here and there.....Mollipop makes sure of that.

Rick says he can tell how stressed out I am, just by looking at my nails. You see, I'm a habitual nail biter from way back and when I really get stressed, my nails are the first things to go. That's probably another reason why I try to keep them polished at all times.

I have been for a few professional manicures. But I mostly polish them myself. I generally go for muted colors, mauves, etc. But I am going to paint them red today. It's Christmas. :lol3:

I used to be obsessed with keeping my nails manicured but now its only done for special occasions, and professionally. My nails chip too fast and I was resenting spending the money for something that lasted way less than a week. I like having a gel, they last upwards of 2 weeks butcan't justify the cost plus, removing it at home is near impossible.

I go for pedicures fairly regularly. I find it impossible to do my own toes, let alone all the other maintenance feet need, and since a pedicure lasts longer, the cost doesn't bother me as much.

For color, I prefer lighter on hands and deeper tones on feet.

I get an occasional pedicure & manicure. I don't get the artificial nails I feel they ruin my natural nails. This last time I cut, filed and painted them myself . I'm currently in a black cherry red for Christmas also. Now my girls are getting their nails done too it's getting very expensive! The girls are 10 & 18 yrs old.

years ago when i worked in accounting and auditing, i would have manicures (and pedicures) done on a regular basis -- mostly because it was so very relaxing. i'd tried clear polish a couple times, but i preferred to have my nails buffed -- healthy looking nails with a very nice natural shine to them.

these days i do a lot of outdoors and rough work, so even if i wanted to grow my nails longer they probably would get broken and they would definitely have dirt/debris/assorted other 'gunk' under them. so i trim my nail's growth off completely as soon as i see it, about every 4-6 days. i always tell our jaspurr that mommy will trim both of our nails, when i'm trimming his.

I used to but haven't in a long time. I prefer to go get them done rather than do them myself. The left hand turns out OK but the right one (painted by the left) ends up looking like a blindfolded toddler did it.

I like French manicures and bright colors like reds and purples. I also like black and gray.

I rarely paint my nails now and I do them myself.  I used to get the acrylic nails but I really messed up one of my nails because I didn't take breaks from them.  When I would first get a brand new set I would get the air brushed french manicure.  As they aged and began yellowing I would start getting them polished, then when I would have them taken off and new ones put on I would go back to the french manicure.

I keep my nails trimmed and filed but I don't polish them much anymore, only if I'm going somewhere special and around the holidays like now.  Otherwise I don't polish them except for 'hard as nails' without color.

Nope. Only do it on very special occasions. I think the last time I got my nails painted, it was with a full-on manicure for my friend's wedding in 2006. I don't mind the manicure part, especially the paraffin dip - makes my hands soooo soft! But can't be bothered otherwise. I bite my nails too much anyway, lol.

On occasion.  I used to all the time.  I may start again.  I love color, although some people think that at my age, I should stick to naturals.  Phooey.  If I want purple nails, purple nails I shall have.  No one will say about me, "What a sweet old lady."  They shall say, "Good God, what is she up to now?!?!?!?"

Don't much do my toes, but only because I've been pouting for the last six years, when I could no longer find my favorite nail color, Chinese Gold.  Can't even find anything near it.  It was an antique-y gold, and went with whatever I put on my fingers very nicely.  And sometimes I'd chang my polish daily, to match whatever I was wearing.  Oddly, that was always jeans and something, but I'd match the "something."  For someone who really doesn't care much about fashion, I did get into the nails!

I usually paint my nails clear, but I just painted them pink.  I only go to get my nails done once or twice a year.  I enjoy getting pedicures more often.  I like darker colors on toes too.

i used to keep my nails panted all the time!  My nails are probably the nicest thing I inherited; genetically speaking.
I used to paint some detailed things; even little scenes.  I'd add those stickers your referring to or little gems and sequins.  It just doesn't last like it used to; so I don't bother.  it's probably from washing my hands so much.  I've never had my nails done professionally; with the artificial nails.  I had them painted once for a wedding and I was totally turned off.  The person used some sort of file on the top of my nails without even trying to avoid my skin.

I do like to keep my toes painted though!!  It makes me feel like I'm doing something to keep myself looking nice; even if I'm in yoga pants most of the time.  I don't really do anything fancy anymore.  I just paint them.  I will use pretty much any color.  I just pick what suits my mood and sometimes the season.

DD and I are both getting Christmas toes this year.  I've got red paint and green glitter paint.  I did DD's toes once already. The kids had their Christmas pictures taken in their Christmas pajamas; so you could see her toes in some pictures.  You couldn't see the details clearly; but you could see the red.  it was cute!  A few years ago my friend's mother did our pictures at her house.  I forgot DD's stockings to put under her dress.  In the picture their Christmas tree is next to the roaring fireplace, trimmed with stockings.  Very cozy and nostalgic.  We sat DD on a rocking horse in her pretty shiny dress and bare feet.  Her toes were red then too.  It turned out to be a very sweet candid picture!

I paint my nails regularly, mainly clear/natural/sparkles colours. I like the overall look of clean, well kept, classic, comfortable nails. I don't like them long, they get in the way.

But if I do go for colours, I like lilacs, blues and metallics. If I wear other colours it is usually for special occasions, like holidays or themed days.

I hate having chipped looking nails (Have to remove right away! which means having to do so every couple days, kind of tedious) which is why I love the former look. They can fade and still look nice.

I don't do my toes, don't bother
 pointe shoes and all.

I also do  everything myself, I don't care to go and don't see the point of going to a nail salon.  I can totally get why others enjoy it, it's just not for me, I'm content doing it myself.

Revlon makes a really pretty gold polish called Jackpot. It's a gel polish. I got it for DD at Wal Mart for $4.97.

Second row, fourth from left. DD wanted a matte top coat to put over the polishes I got her. I bought the OPI one from Sally. It was about $13. I saw a matte top coat by Wet n Wild at Dollar Tree the other day for, of course, $1.

The polish looks good with the matte over it though

When I'm an old woman I shall wear purple,

And a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.

Jenny Joseph.

THANKS!  That actually looks like it might be what I'm looking for.  I'll check it out next time I go to WalMart.

And I shall spend my pension

On brandy and summer gloves....

Also Jenny Joseph, although I may skip the summer gloves and the satin slippers, and the butter may go hang.
