Near my house building, there is an abandoned home with a little yard, that many stray/ feral cats live there. The past summer, while I was returning home a little kittie saw me and begun meowing me. I walk near her and began to pet her and not only she let me, but she began to follow me for a few feet. The same day I began to feed her, going to the old house calling her. After a few days, she began coming outside of my door and I let her in and feed her... Of course she was never staying long, but she was staying longer every time. After a while in the end of summer, I was going a business trip and I was worried about my stray cat, a friendly neighbor took care to feed her while I was gone. Returning from the the trip everything was ok for the most part. But with the end of summer, every time she was coming, I closed the windows and door, because of the cold. I think she was not like that, cause every time she was meowing and standing in front of the door. I try to keep her a while longer every time and she seems to accept it,fine enough, but the time that I called her to come now, shewas showing a little later, sometimes even hours later.  Anyway, she never could stay for more than 5 hours a day. Near my apartment house a neighbor has an outdoor cat that is twice the size of mine and always attacking her, so some night she came home with a damaged eye and crying blood tears. Immediately, I began to make chamomile compresses while she was meowing/ crying... this was the first night that she stayed in my house for6 hours. The next morning, she left again and she came the night again crying forher eye. I tell you that meanwhile i booked 2 different appointments with the vet and we lost them cause she was not coming when i was calling her. The third day I had the day of my work and stayed to wait hercome, when she came I closed the doors and windows and called my vet who told me to bring her that moment to her. The whole road from my house she was meowing and was very upset. There the vet let us know three things: 1) she had an eye infection and she had to have eye drops  2 to 3 times a day, 2) I was also had to apply to her a salve every night, after a bath with a specific shampoo  and 3) I had to take her there again after a month to check her.  In that next appointment I also was going to Spaying her. Well that was our doom ... My so loving and caring pet became a horror.... At first she hated the nightly bath so much, that when she was coming she would not let me touch her, after a while she was used to bath but she was coming only for food and she bite once when I came to hold her, then out of reflex i toss her away and hitting her on the floor, but she was still coming back every morning waking me at 5.30 for food and petting. And then one day after the bath, she began to scratch everything in the house and she was not listening (she was usually listened to my loud voice) so i grab her and toss her in her little bed, for some time she was scared of me, because Iwas yelling loudly. She did not came for a day or two but she was coming nearly every morning after that. One day, I did not open cause I was up late and I did nit hear her meowing, but my neighbor told me she as there.  Anyway, after that i called and called and she never came back again...  So a week ago I begun to go to the old house calling and  with food, she did not show immediately but i spot her under a nearby car so with her favorite food she extract her head to eat so I grab to my arms and then all hell broke loose... she bite me and scratch me very hard and everywhere until i let her, I return home that day crying.  After that incident, I return many times and call her and she is running to hide... and she never came back. The moment that i write you this I also cry, but I cannot get over how my loving cat that she actually choose me, decide to hate me so completly... I understand that I did some yelling and maybe tossing when I was mad but I feel like a very bad person, that not even a cat can stand... Please, answer me, I want her back! What i did so wrong?

I also want some advice about how I could catch her really fast because in a few days we have the vet appointment again. I just want to tell again that she does not come any more even, when I go and call her in her area.

I would advise that you borrow or purchase a humane trap (most Humane Societies will rent you one) and next time you see her, set the trap nearby with some tuna fish in it or something else she enjoys, and then get out of her sight but stay close enough to hear if she goes into the trap. Don't leave the trap unattended. Call and ask your vet if they will allow you to bring her directly to the vet office to be kenneled and then spayed and treated if you trap her so you could bring her directly to them in the trap. If this isn't an option, then when you trap her, take her into a room in your home. Then you will have to catch her again to get her to the vet, but it will be easier because she'll be inside. You can wear thick utility gloves to scoop her into a carrier. Ask someone to help you. Ask the vet if they will give her a slow acting antibiotic injection so you wouldn't have to worry about bathing the eye or giving her daily medication. After she is spayed, keep her in a quiet room by herself for a few days to fully recover. Then you have a choice to make. You can either keep her and allow her time to adjust to life indoors only--and deal with the fact that she will likely cry at times for at least a few weeks-- or release her back outside and continue to feed her and provide her with some kind of pet shelter for the cold weather. Since she's allowed you to pet her in the past, she's not a feral, so she can  adjust to being an indoor only cat in time, but it will take patience on your part. Understand that cats are sensitive creatures, so if you yell at her or hit her, she'll have a hard time trusting you again. Perhaps you could find another home for her, someone who has worked with strays before. If she remains an outdoor cat, you can continue to be her caregiver, but at least she won't get pregnant or into as many fights.

I will try the trap but i do not know, if I manage something because there are many cats there and mine it does not even appear when  I call.  So it' s normal that she hates me now? Can I gain her trust again? Thank you so much for your answer.

Can you find a cat rescue society that would trap, fix and release all of them. I know around here they will set up a number of traps and catch the whole colony. You could ask that they release her to you. You will need to show patience as it might take time for her to warm up to you, I doubt she would be a lap cat but still could be a good companion. Make sure you keep a close eye on the bites and scratches as they could result in a nasty infection. Good luck let us know how you make out.

BTW where are you located?

Thank you for your advice, but I do not know if  there is that kind of help in my city or my country for that matter. I live in Athens, in Greece, and the operation of spraying is actually quite expensive everywhere here, so is a visit in the vet. Thankfully, my vet is very good and she loves stray animals.
