Psycho had not been eating much the last few days. He plays and uses the litter box fine but his appetite is off. When he had his wellness in December the vet said he had some renal insufficiency. I called them tonight and they want me to bring him on Thursday and drop him off so they can recheck his blood work. Wish us luck .
:vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Hopefully it hasn't gotten worse. Is Psycho on Pepcid at all?

Hi everyone, just an update on Psycho. We had the blood work done again today and all the values have gone down. Yeah[emoji]128516[/emoji] Some are still above normal range but are lower. His calcium is still above normal so the vet did an ionized calcium test and we should get the results next week.
Psycho has been on Prozac for 6 years and the vet wants to wean him off over the next 2 weeks to see if it is starting to effect his digestive track. He was originally put on it for anxiety and excessive howling. We ll see if there are any personality changes as well . Psycho ate really well when he came home tonight. The vet also gave me Mirtazapine if needed for appetite. Thank you for the good vibes and I ll keep you updated.

Psycho ate great today too. First lower dose of Prozac tonight . I hope after 6 years he can do without it and his quality of life stays the same. The vet said if things don t go well we can put him back on it. I will be interested to see if it has any effect on his blood work to be without it. Need all the good vibes we can get.

Psycho's ionized calcium is normal. Yay ! So vet things very early renal insufficiency is causing the serum high calcium. We are in the middle of the weaning process off the Prozac and so far so good. I did give him 1/16 of the Mirtazapine 7.5 tablet on Sunday and he is eating really well. I don t know if it is the Mirtz or just having less Prozac in his system that is giving him a better appetite. Guess we ll just monitor and see what happens after he is off Prozac for good next Friday.

1/16 of mirt - that must be fun cutting that size! Is he almost begging for food? If that is the case I'd say that the mirt is taking effect for sure. When Lucky had mirt the first time, he climbed into my lap, stuck his face in my chicken taco salad, and made off with a piece of chicken!

Haha ! How long does it stimulate the appetite in your experience? I gave it to him Sunday, it was just a shaving and he is still eating good.

Well, Lucky was on 1/4 of a pill. He got it the day he was diagnosed. And maybe an hour later, there he was, stealing chicken.
