I guess a twist on the smiley one. I love music though and sometimes, lyrics just really speak more to my mood / state of mind / what have you.

RULES: Can put the lyrics to just verse, just chorus, or the whole thing if you like. You MUST state the name of the song and the artist, though. If you want to put a little explanation, feel free. Or not.

With that said, I will start. This is a song by my friend's band, Squared Off. They're a local punk band that I describe as "south-side Chicago blue collar punk". This song touches my soul, and always pulls me up to the stage. I kinda feel like this is me telling myself, "I really will get through this" kinda thing.

Btw, this is the chorus. I'm putting the lyrics they use in the last chorus at their live shows. They tweak things a bit for live shows.

From the song "Standing Strong", by Squared Off.

See, me, standing right here!

There's nothing you can do that can change my belief

See my standing here

I'm standing strong!

See, us, standing right here!

There's nothing you can say that will change our ways

See us standing here

We're standing strong!

I usually listen to the radio. They play pretty regular stuff like Twenty One Pilots or the Killers.

Yesterday, as I was driving home, they played "Redemption Song." I was in traffic, and it made me happy and sad at the same time. It's technically "before my time," but as kids growing up near the beach (and a lot of us smoking weed), listening to Marley was just part of the deal. It's not what I would go to, generally, but I think it sums up my mood right now.

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the 'and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfil de book.

Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

I can keep on changing the song
Keep on changing stations
Til I finally land on one
I don't mind that they keep playing
I'd take a different road through town
I find another way around
Change it up, really shake it up
Yeah, I'm trying

But it don't change gone, won't bring her back
She's moved on, and I'm stuck with that
I could change whatever I want
But it don't change gone

I could keep on hanging around
But I don't see me staying
Strike a match and burn it down
Walk out and leave it laying
Don't think about a thing just drive
Far enough til I find a change of scene
A new routine, I'll try anything

Jason Aldean, "Don't Change Gone"

Having a tough time in life right now with someone, and we currently haven't spoken in 2 days ... I KNOW something must have happened on Tuesday afternoon, and I know something is up / wrong, I'm just afraid to confront it and confirm because things have been so hard the last month and the last time we fell into a week of not speaking it broke my heart badly. Seems the radio, that I normally love, is my worst enemy these last couple days, playing songs that bring up memories or lyrics that talk to me. Roads in town remind me of riding together in the truck, and of much better times when we spent more time happy and sharing our feelings vs pretending they don't exist.

This song fits my "mid-life crisis" feeling that I've been having since Lucky died. And today felt it so much.

From "She" by Green Day (one of my favorite songs by them, and one of my favorites overall).

She, she screams in silence

A sullen riot penetrating through her mind

Waiting for a sign

To smash the silence with the brick of self-control

[chorus]

Are you locked up in a world that's been planned out for you?

Are you feeling like a social tool without a use?

Scream at me until my ears bleed

I'm takin' heed just for you

What greater gift than the love of a cat.

Letter Bomb By Green Day
Lyrics
Nobody likes you...
Everyone left you...
They're all out without you...
Having fun...

Where have all the *******s gone?
The underbelly stacks up ten high
The dummy failed the crash test
Collecting unemployment checks
Like a flunkie along for the ride

Where have all the riots gone
As the city's motto gets pulverized?
What's in love is now in debt
On your birth certificate
So strike the f***ing match to light this fuse!

The town bishop is an extortionist
And he don't even know that you exist
Standing still when it's do or die
You better run for your f***ing life

It's not over 'till you're underground
It's not over before it's too late
This city's burnin'
It's not my burden
It's not over before it's too late

There's nothing left to analyze

Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself?
And where will we all go when it's too late?

And don't look back

You're not the Jesus of Suburbia
The St. Jimmy is a figment of
Your father's rage and your mother's love
Made me the idiot America

It's not over 'till you're underground
It's not over before it's too late
This city's burnin'
It's not my burden
It's not over before it's too late

She said I can't take this place
I'm leaving it behind

Well she said I can't take this town
I'm leaving you tonight

Oh, the passenger
He rides and he rides
He sees things from under glass
He looks through his window's eye
He sees the things he knows are his
He sees the bright and hollow sky
He sees the city asleep at night
He sees the stars are out tonight
And all of it is yours and mine
And all of it is yours and mine
Oh, let's ride and ride and ride and ride

I think we can all relate to this kind of day.

From "That's Life!" by Frank Sinatra.

That's life, that's what all the people say

Riding high in April, shot down in May

But I know I'm gonna change that tune

When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem

Some people get their kicks stompin' a dream

But I don't let it, let it get me down

'Cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around

[chorus]

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate a poet, a pawn and a king

I've been up and down and over and out, and I know one thing

Each time I find myself flat on my face

I pick myself up and get back in the race!
